The Tandem Experience & Tandem Shop

We can highly recommend the tandem experience, our first ever go on a tandem was made very pleasurable indeed. The first hour was spent going over the basics with some lessons on mounting/dismounting etc, we were then given a lovely local 25 mile route which we thoroughly enjoyed. Helpful and friendly staff. Excellent condition bikes and route suggestions with maps. A fun day out and something different.There is a surprising amount of teamwork involved besides peddling. And don't for a second think the person sat behind doesn't have to peddle. They are linked so both sets of peddles turn together.

Brilliant tandem experience - such fun and great tuition. My husband and I had a glorious day which amazed us both with how much we fun we had embracing tandem riding and how surprisingly good we were at communication and co-operation!! We can highly recommend the experience and the fabulous support and tuition from Peter :-)

I called first and spoke to a lady who arranged for the owner to call me back. He called promptly and I arranged to visit the showroom. On site I had a long discussion with Peter (owner) who became aware very quickly that he couldn't help me on that day due to my requirements. Despite this he took his time to give me fabulous advice on what to do and not to do when buying a tandem and talked at length with passion and incredible knowledge that was so very impressive. Peter knows his stuff and his bespoke approach to bikes in general was a pleasure to hear for someone who grew up with steel. Equally impressive was the environment - the location of Peter's showroom was really classy and enhanced completely the all round sense of service which I received that made my visit thoroughly worthwhile. I would recommend in the strongest possible terms a visit to Peter if you are a a genuine enthusiast of bikes. His knowledge and passion are infectious and further, his objectivity is a lesson in customer service. He had no hesitation in recommending what I needed to do to achieve my buying requirements which meant no business for him, but business for a competitor, at the end of a long conversation with me. We feel very fortunate that we were gifted gifted The Tandem experience by family. Pete gave a very thorough and enjoyable introduction before setting us off on a very picturesque and traffic-free route. Would have no hesitation in recommending.

We had the most amazing day with Pete and 'The Tandem Experience'. We have been seriously considering buying a tandem, but though we'd better try one first, and that led us to Pete. The day really is a whole lot more than just that though. Pete will tell you (and it really is true) that so many couples have been put off tandem riding simply because they were never taught how to actually ride one. The first hour of the day is explanation, instruction, training etc, and you only go out when you really do understand the techniques. I can only imagine how tough it would be without good quality instruction. The shop is amazing, the setting is amazing, and the biking around the area is so beautiful. If you are wanting to try tandem biking, these are your people!

My wife and I had a great time at the Tandem Experience! Pete is both extremely knowledgeable and very passionate about tandeming, and we learnt a great deal beyond the basics that we had picked up on our only previous foray. Plus, we made a weekend of it, and the Ironbridge Gorge is absolutely lovely! We hope to buy our own tandem in coming years, and when we do, we shall definitely buy it from Bicycles by Design, as their service is first class :)

Should have done this review months ago. We decided we wanted a tandem, booked an experience day last March and loved the experience. So ordered a fab Landscape disc bike which we received around 3 month later. The bike is excellent. A very late thanks to Pete and Rob for the help and advice even if we blew the budget and spent far too much in the end. But worth every penny. If you want a tandem, this is the place to go.
