I'm pretty sure that once upon a time this hotel and high street was alive and bursting with people. Unfortunately today with the departure of the Royal Navy and sadly out of the tourist season the place just has a rundown feel to it and after dark the place is deserted.

Great location and most staff were friendly. We booked a room not checking the small print and didn't enjoy having to walk to a shared toilet but that's how the cookie crumbles.Very good pub grub but let down by the unfriendly atmosphere from bar staff.Value for money it is and we would give them another visit but make sure the room was en suite and probably eat elsewhere.

We have used the hotel for years, it does what it says on the tin! It is clean, warm and friendly, the foot may not be Michelin standard but it is always good and the staff are friendly, welcoming and helpful. We will keep using as long as we can

Stayed here twice. Enjoyed each time. The rooms are as advertised, and while you don't typically have a private bathroom, they provide a nice complimentary breakfast. Located across from the D-Day museum right across the bridge from Weymouth.

I will leave here my experience for everyone. Poor is not sufficient for designate it. Sincersly I don't know how is possible call this place hotel. 2stars??? If that place has 2 stars any house can to have 5.We paid ( my wife and me ) for 2 nights 25th amd 26th August, but only been there one.It was more than sufficient. We prefered lose the money of the second night before pass another night there. It's truth that the breakfast was not too bad, but it was the only good thing. The shared bathrooms not been to clean and the are from the 2nd world war time. Thats does not matter if at least they were well cleaned that not was the case. Them, the showers, another history. In our floor only had 4 showers, one of them was out of service ( ok, we understand that sometimes there are faults like at home ) , but another one, the lock was broken and the signs were of to be broken long time ago ( sign of the poor care of the installations ). After try ( and I say try because it was another oddysey) the water comes cold and you need to be very carefully for noth wash the towel and your wear at the same time as you. Of course you'll not leave the towel and your wear outside when you are in the shared house. The beds like sleep in one wood plank.( i know that a strong matress is good , but not sleep in a wood plank ). The doors are everything minus silencious. You can be the most carefully person that everyone knows when you entry and go out from your room" for the door noise that it makes. And more details that i will not write for not write a book. Of course we'll not go there again. Sad experience and one adventure that not like at the same time."

Just want to thank all the staff at Breakwater Hotel for their professional service and hospitality. We had a wonderful stay and enjoyed the local area with loads of places to visit. Hotel was very clean and just what we needed. The hotel is very good located and walking distance to a few great attractions and restaurants. Thanks again for looking after us. We will visit soon again and highly recommend you to all.

Cleaner left our room door unlocked and wide open for 5 hours, lucky none of our stuff was stolen as we were on the ground floor. Only a communal wc and bathroom and the lock was broken making it impossible to use the toilet or have showers without someone guarding outside the door. The beds were 20 years old and grim. The 'free WiFi' didn't actually work in our room. Overall, not really recommended. Staff were alright though.

My boyfriend booked this hotel based on the reviews and on the fact this was one of the most expensive hotels in town. We were staying only for one night there. From the beginning we really didn't like the place. It was very dark without any lights on in the hallway. No one at reception, we rang the bell and a young man came to meet us in what looked like work clothes from a construction site. He seemed very distracted, disorganised and and kept saying 'I'm rubbish at this'. He couldn't answer most of our questions. The room was small and needed airing. You need to hold your breath to squeeze into the smallest bathroom of all times. Bed was uncomfortable and the room felt like it needed a deep clean. The breakfast was OK but no healthy options. Overall I'd give this three stars and wouldn't go back.

Great location with pay car park opposite.Near Portland waterfront, good for leisure centre with fab pool. Close by to Portland Castle and also the D Day Museum. Walk up an old railway or drive to Portland Museum or family farm, or Portland Bill.Going through changes of ownership.Very friendly staff. Breakfast OK but cheap sausages and you don't get given the full English breakfast with mushrooms and hash browns unless you ask and pay an extra £1.50 each. Needs to rip up the carpet in the bathroom and switch for vynyl or similar.Needs heavier curtains as they didn't shut out the dawn light at five o'clock this morning.First room we were given hadn't been cleaned but we were quickly swapped to another room beds comfy and nice room size. Inexpensive hotel
