Nice, clean and comfortable, don't miss the full breakfast. Close to all places of interest. Thanks Gwen and Danny for their local knowledge and hospitality. See you again.

We have just returned from a 5 night stay here. It is one of the best hotels we have stayed in, comfortable, very clean and excellent breakfasts. A very friendly host and staff and nothing was too much trouble. Situated in an ideal location to everything and easy to find. We will definitely return.

The atmosphere was dull and eating breakfast was uncomfortable with whispering waitresses and not all food on menu available. In the room I was going to unpack using the drawers and found used sanitary towels in one and a used female razor in the other. It put me off totally and the smell from the drawer stayed with me! The stuff was removed but the drawers not cleaned by the owner...hence my clothes stayed in the case! Will not be returning.

'Arrived as strangers, left as friends' And that's exactly what we did when we first visited Gwen and Danny @ St Margarets lodge just over 8 years ago! This is a warm welcoming B&B, situated close to the sea front and close to all of southsea's attractions, which in our opinion includes a stunning and sometimes bracing sea front walk all the way to Old Portsmouth, where the Guinness tastes amazing! If the walk isn't for you St Margarets has bus stops close by which also go to all of the major attractions. St Margarets is very clean ,well presented with lovely well equipped rooms and fantastic en suite facilities. We have stayed in a number of rooms at St Margarets and all have been to a 5 star standard! The home cooked breakfast, cooked by Danny is stunning ,with plenty of choice on the menu and a different full english daily, cooked fresh daily! A breakfast with plenty of toast and coffee or tea, that will see you through until tea! This is a B&B that my family and I would highly recommend, and that is why we return to St Margarets whenever we can!!

Very comfy. Lovely bedding and interested to see how they had adapted the house. Interesting en suite with his and hers basins and the tub bath. Owner very kindly waited for us to arrive which was unavoidably late

St. Margarets Lodge is housed in a beautiful old building just minutes from Southsea Beach, the pier and Canoe Lake. It’s located about a 10 minute walk from Albert Street, home to shops, a tea room and of course, the ubiqitous pub on the corner! We found our stay to be quite disappointing, although the room itself was “ok”. On one occasion we had to ask for loo necessities - toilet roll and kleenex tissues. In order to use the iron, one had to carry a quite heavy ironing board and iron up to the second floor. Glad we weren’t on the third floor.Very hot and stuffy - no fans in the rooms; one doesn’t expect air conditioning in a glorious old building, but a fan would have been perfect. The plastic “tumblers” were never changed out from the day we arrived when we opened the plastic wrap and took the tumblers out.Breakfast was the usual run-of-the-mill - from a full English to a basic cheese omelet. The coffee was a huge disappointment. Instant. Served with milk. It came so piping hot we couldn’t help but wonder if it hadn’t been nuked. When one considers how close France is to Southsea, real coffee wouldn’t go amiss. Not everyone who travels to England is a tea drinker. To sum it up, our stay was far from the highlight of our trip to Portsmouth, which was a shame really, as the setting was lovely.
