Saul Abbott Garden Design - Garden Design & Private Horticultural Teaching

Problem: Design and planting for new front drive/garden in wooded lane amongst and overshadowed by two large oak trees. My main concern was spending a lot of money on plants, hedges, trees etc, that were not suitable to this environment.Solution: Better call Saul. As a complete novice gardener, I was so lucky to find Saul – and for him to agree to work with my very limited budget to create a beautiful garden for me! I only had a very basic idea of what I wanted and Saul realised something I could never have imagined for myself. My scrappy patch of rotting decking and gravel has been transformed into an Islamic-inspired piece of paradise (which aptly enough means ‘garden’). Saul is very perceptive about his clients’ tastes and needs - his initial design was barely changed. He suggested (and sourced) the perfect materials – the paving, the tiles, the screens, all within budget. His planting has also been spot on. As the garden has matured, it has been a joy to see each plant blossom – the garden has been consistently colourful and lush. Saul was fun to work with, patient and good humoured in the face of difficulties. He left me detailed instructions for the care of my garden, and has continued to answer questions as they arise. I couldn’t recommend Saul more highly.

Saul is a true plants man as well as being reliable and honest. He has transformed my boring small garden into the pretty cottage garden space I wanted. He suggests plants but is happy to discuss other options. Saul is very pleasant to have around and I would highly recommend him. Fern.

Saul was the best thing that could ever happen to us to help us look after our garden. Having a garden with so many plants can be daunting and Saul gave us a tutorial that helped us understand that it can be easier that what is seems! He is super knowledgeable, friendly, patient and he is such a good tutor! He came to our home last Saturday and soon after he sent us an amazing document (now our garden bible) with pictures and descriptions of how to look after each plant. We can't wait to get his help again when we start are vegetable growing!

Saul did an amazing job with a very modest budget of 10k.I found Saul via Google maps, along with a few other local designers and he was the only person to respond, to come and look at my garden and to consider the challenge. I will be eternally greatful he did as I now have a beautiful garden.He spent a couple of hours getting to know me and talking through what I wanted to achieve. We spent a further couple of hours talking through a design and the various options.Saul made my garden, as well as designed it. He is diligent and incredibly hardworking, and clearly cares so much about creating a beautiful space ( I will add photos in the Spring).Friends and family have commented how 'me' my garden is. That shows you how clever Saul is at figuring out what you are about!His plant knowledge is phenomenal. He left me with detailed information about my plants, how to look after them and with a seemingly open ended offer to provide advice in the future.Don't believe it when he says he doesn't like to be disturbed with a cup of tea!

Saul was recommended from a Facebook group based in Eynsford. Once we worked out what we wanted he completely understood and agreed with our ideas also his ideas were great too. We complimented each ideas and the project went quite well. Saul was very kind and also very very resourceful and helpful recommending good places in terms of products and stock.The outcome was absolutely brilliant and we are very happy with it!We also like the idea to stay and promote local business. And we love that.

We were fortunate to be able to invite Saul round to our garden for one of his Tutorial Sessions.What fantastic value for money. Saul is personable, interesting with a seemingly encyclopaedic knowledge of plants and horticulture.We had a brilliant time it felt like an informative chat with a good friend, my wife has a reasonable knowledge of plants whereas I am a real amateur, my Mum joined in as well and Saul was able to converse with all of us on an equal level. We learned so much on the day and at no point did it feel rushed or hurried, Saul always had time to talk and explain.He then backed up all our conversations with a very comprehensive Plant Maintenance Document, this will be a useful reference for us for many years hence.I feel that I could write much more, I cannot recommend Saul highly enough, whether you want the Tutorial or Garden design, this is a person who knows what he’s talking about and uses it for others benefit.Thank You Saul

Saul was a pleasure to work with. He spent a lot of time understanding how we wanted to use the garden and designing around that to ensure that we were spending money in the right places and we were left with a garden that didn't just look good but was ready to be used in the way that we had hoped. Saul designed a garden which we love, which was delivered on time and with a carefully managed budget and which has some really cool design features. He also pulled together a great team of outside trades who did the hard landscaping and garden room build. Would thoroughly recommend.

We have never used a garden/patio designer before, and so the process and outcome were a complete mystery to us. In fact, a couple of family members said they thought that they would be able to design our patio just as well instead of paying a fee for a professional. But reading so many positive reviews, we thought we'd take the plunge. Now that its finished, we are all just blown away. Its simply stunning. And we're so delighted that we spent just less than 5% extra getting a designer, but saved ourselves far more in the build and materials, and ended up with a far, far better outcome.Saul was a pleasure to work with from start to finish. He provided a detailed design down to the nearest millimeter, with every little detail considered. Also, he provided a spreadsheet complete with websites to source all the materials, and essentially worked with the builder to get the materials on site at the right time and project manage the whole thing. This saved us so much time and stress. We also saved money on numerous purchases through Saul's contacts and knowledge.Throughout the build, Saul was on hand to monitor and advise both the builder and ourselves with any queries.We will now use our patio so much more as we have a comfortable seating area with optional shade and a stylish bar to sit at.I'm very much considering using Saul again to design other parts of our front and back garden, as the result on the patio has been so impressive.
