I used Susan Philipps for my divorce case in 2020. I must say that Susan has proven to be one of the most greedy and manipulative person I’ve ever encountered.At the time I was in great emotional turmoil of an unexpected divorce and sudden passing of my father. Susan exploited my vulnerability. She swiftly gained my trust by suggesting me to change from the court hearing to pFDR , assuring me it is the same as the court hearing but it’d expedite the case and work in my favour. She convinced the opposing party to accept pFDR (which I later discovered she had made a deal with them). She arranged the barrister and the Judge from the same chamber, 29 Bedford Row. All these moves impressed me. I only knew at the hearing that pFDR Judge had no authority like the court Judge. Susan had misled me and wasted my money and time.Despite Susan’s exorbitant averaging monthly billing exceeding £10,000, she determined to prolong the case to profit further. She insisted that I modified my proposal from 50/50 split to 47% which is my bottom line, saying that she knew how the Judge prefers to see when I refused it. On the other hands, she withheld evidence favourable to me, my medical records with a history of depression and my CV, despite it was the court order. Susan deliberately painted me as a dishonest person who disrespect the court, aiming to prevent the Judge from giving a fair opinion of me. During the hearing, each time I wanted to accept the deal proposed by the opposing party to close the case, Susan would dissuade me deeming it too low and unfair to me. I eventually realised her strategy to prolong the case and sacked her after the hearing.Susan booked a 3-person room 10 days before the hearing but lied to me that all parties would attend in person. She knew I’d also attend virtually if knowing the truth, which would have prevented her from charging me £5,000 based on her £600 hourly rate on hearing day. She charged me £7,200 for barrister fees without the barrister knowledge, charged £2,500 for reading a pension report when only one page of the report was necessary, her lack of CGT knowledge caused me missing this charge on proposal..…. The list of her dishonest and greedy could go on…..It’s also deeply disappointing that AFP had refused to disclose my file against GDPR rules.

Shocking misconduct, I can completely relate to other reviews here describing their experiences. Avoid.

I used Magnus Mill for my divorce proceeding. He represented me in a highly contentious divorce where I was set to lose half of the house and dealt with very difficult issues such as undue influence, the chancery division and the Queens bench.Magnus is very fair in his dealings and he has always gone above and beyond what was expected of him. He is well organised, helpful and pleasant to deal with.The most important factor for me was outcome and costs. Costs were always transparent and there was always give and take with fees. I always felt that Magnus was very honest regarding this matter. He is reasonably priced and provided the service that I needed. Needless to say that the case went in my favour (despite the usual court ups and downs) and I won a house mortgage free with it.Divorce is never cheap if the other side is contentious so it is more about reducing collateral damage.
