Avoid. Several items were off the menu at 7pm , ridiculous. Waiter was interesting .Ordered a bottle of white wine. He dumped the ice bucket containing wine bottle and glasses on the table with a quick here's your wine" and walked off. Cutlery was dumped on the table in a similar way.My husband had gammon and eggs. Egg white was like plastic. Triple cooked chips ??? no

The service was beyond excellent. Warren, who waited on our table, was informative, helpful, patient and very humorous; he made the evening even more enjoyable. The food was excellent and filling. Couldn’t recommend highly enough.

We ate here twice in three days as we were staying at the Premier Inn next door. We were served by Karen and Mariusz, both of whom were friendly, polite and attentive. Good Customer service right there. It was a lovely place with plenty of room inside - not tables all crammed together to get as many in as possible as you see in some places. All the food we had was of good quality and great taste but the picks have to be the duo of lamb, the pie of the day and honeypot dessert. The lamb rump was juicy, tender and succulent while the shepherds pie was rich and full of flavour. The pie was steak and red wine and the steak melted in your mouth. The honeypot dessert was quite exquisite- a little chocolate honey pot filled with mousse and honeycomb. If we lived in York, this would certainly become one of our regulars.

The waiter was lovely and we thoroughly enjoyed his company. I would have liked at least one vedge with my steak. The Xmas pudding left me a little flat, which is how it looked in the bowl, a quarter with some custard it needed to look a bit more like a bowl of pudding. Otherwise no probs. That waiter is a keeper. So charming, polite, amusing and friendly

Great atmosphere, very cosy and quiet which was great , very good service from the staff and the beer choice was very good .The menu was good , although still found it pretty expensive, one of the reasons I stopped coming which was a shame as I am local , a stones throw away .One of the reasons I came back was the discounted voucher I had from the app ......... enjoyed it very much ..... please do a few more chefs specials and certainly more discounted offers ... cheers...... and please make the portion size a bit bigger ..... I'm not a huge guy .... but I am pretty hungry...cheers

Came here one evening whilst staying at the nearby Premier Inn.Thoroughly recommended, very cosy place with a lovely open fire inside the restaurant area. Would certainly recommend booking earlier in the day as it does get very busy and tends to be fully booked if left too late.The food was lovely, priced around what you'd expect nowadays given the style of the place. Drinks were reasonable too, and with a good choice of Non-alcoholic/alcohol free options which made a nice change.Part of Vintage Inns, so would recommend picking up their app to get a hold of some discounts and loyalty offers too, as we easily saved £20 on the bill.

I was on a business trip and was staying at the Premier Inn next door. Staff were great and very helpful. I had assumed there was a 'link' between the businesses (with Premier Inn) so I did not book and they were very helpful in getting me a table without a booking. My waitress was excellent.

Been here several times and never disappoints. Bit more expensive than it used to be but that's the world today. Had the most amazing dessert.

Beautiful little pub. Had a pie dinner with a glass of coke and it was exceptional quality. The only thing lacking about my experience was the initial reception when I walked in. Grant it, Sunday lunchtime is one of the busiest times but I'd have expected more than being just told that sorry there's no room". There were a few tables down the left as you come in and settled down there eventually.Otherwise
