Found this perfect spot for a rest whilst traveling back from Exmouth. Great food and drinks, also had a fab chat with the owner and the chef about travelling through Africa looking forward to go back again next month on our way to the Armchair Adventure festival just so I can show my wife how good the Rooibos lattes are.

Fables and Food is my favourite Cafe in Dorset. The two owners are always friendly and welcoming and their service leaves nothing wanting! Their lemon and berry cake is a slice of heaven and their Victoria sponge is beyond decadent. The South African inspiration makes it unique to any other cafe, and what a treat is is to find melktert and babotie in the UK!

Lovely people running this place and with great food and service. They make a good coffee and have some lovely South African foods. They support take aways as well as eat in. Busy when I went recently with a lovely atmosphere.

Amazing coffee and friendliest staff ever! I ate a saffa egg which is a south african version of a scotch egg. It was incredible with the house salad. This amazing cafe I can highly recommend. Go!

We visited for lunch a few days ago and found it to be a quiet cafe with friendly staff. Interesting menu of things we hadn't tried before and what we ordered was well cooked and tasty but a little expensive for what it was.We were very cold as there was no heating at all and the door was wide open so a few people were eating in their coats. Chairs were cold and hard and it feels quite dark - so not a warm and relaxing place to eat really. We like a warm and comfortable cafe so we won't be going back sadly.

An absolutely brilliant cafe with delicious fresh food, friendly staff and very reasonable prices! The South African cuisine was one I had not tried before, but it was presented brilliantly to me with the wide array of inventive yet authentic dishes on offer. The coffee was also brilliant and the cakes were delicious.

Lovely food and host/wait team!We went for the special barbecue lunch and it was lovely as well as great value. My only comment would be that I'd have loved it if the food had been brought in piping hot but it was delicious nonetheless.Definitely revisiting to try other things on their menu.

Popped into Fables and Food by chance and had a wonderful meal. My wife is a vegetarian and enjoyed her cornstack, and I endulged in a lamb flattie which was absolutely beautiful! So tasty I felt moved to come onto the internet and write a review. Our toddler was asleep, but we did spot a great play area for children out the back. Would come back in a heartbeat if ever in Poundbury again...

Fables and food has a lovely atmosphere, it is happy and Homely, has incredible food and amazing service. I had the French toast and it came out so well presented and tasted just as good as it looked! This cafe is like no other I’ve been to before as it has such a South African vibe, from the food to the decor! They even sell fresh eggs, cakes and fresh bread. Could not recommend enough!

Super friendly owners who cannot do enough for you. We go every week to have a chat and a coffee. The food is simply divine! Highly recommend their lamb dish and the French toast. They do special events that are well worth attending and it is wonderful to have them here in Poundbury.
