Mystery Worship questions and answers. What was the name of the service? The three Mystery Worshippers attended the “Church of the Latter Day Saints (LDS) – testimony service”How full was the building?105% - there were people sat in the corridor outside the main room as it was overflowing with people.Did anyone welcome you personally?Yes, a small group of beautiful young women gave us a warm “good morning” as we entered. One of us was personally greeted by the bishop. Was your pew comfortable?Yes x3.How would you describe the pre-service atmosphere?Relaxed, informal, chatty, and friendlyWhat were the exact opening words of the service?“Good morning brothers and sisters, may I welcome you to our congregation service.”What books did the congregation use during the service?Church of the LDS hymn book. It was rated as exceptionally clear and easy to understand. What musical instruments were played?Organ.Did anything distract you?Quite a few comings and goings during the service. There was a guy in front of us playing with is phone and the volume was up so it beeped occasionally. A woman next to one of us was on her phone engaging with her social media, and another was doing her nails. Towards the end two guys sat next to us had a 10 minute whispered conversation. Was the worship stiff-upper-lip, happy clappy, or what?Stiff upper lip.Exactly how long was the sermon? This was a testimony service, so there was no sermon. Instead, for about 35-40 minutes various people got up and spoke for about 5 minutes about their lived faith. On a scale of 1-10, how good was the preacher? We were impressed with the sincerity of those who spoke and all three of us are giving them a solid 7/10.In a nutshell, what was the sermon about? One of us thought it was a bit like a public therapy session. Another thought they were speaking on how they bear the struggles of life. We were generally impressed with the confidence and sincerity of so many young people to stand up and speak about their life struggles and how their faith in God has helped them through. Double thumbs up from us.Which part of the service was like being in heaven? One of us liked the confessions of faith. Another how legitimate their faith appeared and living by the standards they believe in. Another liked the art of Jesus in the corridors and everyone’s smart clothes. And which part was like being in... er... the other place? The complete silence during the communion was a bit weird. Swapping the wine for water was also a bit unusual, but aligns with LDS doctrine. What happened when you hung around after the service looking lost?We found a very nice copy of the book of Mormon in one of the corridors. Seriously impressive binding (pictured). How would you describe the after-service coffee? There was none – it’s forbidden in the LDS.How would you feel about making another visit (where 10 = ecstatic, 0 = terminal)? One of us is ex-LDS so he it was “good to re-stoke the flame” he gave 9/10. Another only 4 as “it wasn’t my vibe”. The third 0/10 as they were a “bunch of dry heretics”.Did the service make you feel glad to be a Christian?1. “Yes”.2. “Yes in some way.”3. “Kind of”.What one thing will you remember about all this in seven days' time?1. “Their sense of faith.”2. “Earnestness of testimony”3. “Very smart clothing.”
