The New George Hotel

Rubbish place wouldn't open the door wouldn't answer phone, wouldn't refund my money. Stranded in England when I had booked night before. Was I to break door?

Hard pushed to give it a one star but unfortunately it’s required. Absolutely shocking hotel, it’s basic which is to be expected considering the price but I had a bad feeling so cleaned the surfaces and the sponge came up BLACK. Hairs left in the bath (no hot water) and bedsheets were stained with a bunch of unknown substances. On top of that while you walk out the back into the car-park expect to be greeted by dinginess, damp and rubbish from the kitchen put everywhere. Just horrible, you’re better off paying an extra tenner or so and getting a premier inn.

The location was great, easy to get to the town centre by foot, by metro or by bus... however the parking was a joke! There was a back alley garage with room for 3 cars at the back of the hotel... luckily there was space for one small car to squeeze in between a badly parked clio and a huge transit van. The check-in was fine, the guy at the desk was very knowledgeable and helpful. The room itself was small, which was fine for us, we were only staying the one night... but it was so hot, even when the windows were opened... we didn't need to use the duvet! I went to have a shower after walking all around the town and discovered that there was no hot water to be had. My partner went to ask at the desk and was told that there was a problem with the boiler and he would get someone to look at it and to try again in 10 minutes. I tried again after 10 minutes, but the water was still freezing. My partner then discovered that if you take the shower head off the wall, the hot water ran fine. When it came time to sleep, we realised there was a very audible boiler-like noise that would sound for 3 seconds every 10 seconds! Lucky for us we had packed some earplugs. Upon waking in the morning we discovered we were probably sleeping above the kitchen and clattering noises could be heard from below while we were packing up. The breakfast was OK... cereals, juice, their version of a full English, good coffee. All in all, we wouldn't go back and we wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

Clean enough room however the oven has not been cleaned in months its disgusting ,its full of grease.I cooked a pizza and the room filled with smoke and set the alarm off.Also we couldn't lock the door to our room.

What a dump! Arrived after a busy day of work. Key was just left on a ledge. So loud from deep bass music in the building, no chance of sleeping. Bed linen not the cleanest, after saying that nor is the room, - not even ironed to look a little fresh. I wouldn’t mind if this had been cheap rate but at £85 would expect better. Room very tired (a bit like me - but neither of us will get that fixed tonight). Shower broken, screen seal disgusting and hot water and pressure need looking at. Need to say that there is a loud / noisy venue under the hotel rooms. WILL NOT BE BACK.

In 35 years of traveling all over the world, this is in the top 5 worst hotels I've ever been too. It was so bad I didn't even stay.

Extremely disgusted with my night stay here, and strongly advise others to stay clear even for work purposes.I took a shower using the towels provided, I ended up with some kind of hair in my mouth as drying my face!Bedding is manky, decor and furniture well outdated.Room condition, very poor and dangerous. Loose electric sockets and switched throughout, even in thebathroom which has no fan or ventilation. Damp, water and electrics don't mix especially if children staying!The door lock was not properly secured and left a inch gap when closed, not exactly a secure lock then? Alsothis is the rooms only fire door/escape with no seals around wide gaps under, above and side frames, also nospring/arm system is fitted to allow the door to spring shut.The flooring was laminate which had become warped and has gaps between almost everywhere, baring oldfloor boards.Tea and coffee making facilities were available, however the tea bags are loose (unpacked) and had damppatches on them!Also the window netting's had mould on.I was included a free breakfast, however after my terrible night stay being woken up several times from earlymorning, and the poor hygiene and room hazards, I thought it best to decline as to take possible risk of foodpoisoning.I strongly urge people to stay well away, also highly believe this premises should be inspected regards hygieneand safety issues!I have photo evidence to back this up!

The George hotel was excellent value for money with welcoming staff . Double room with ensuite immaculate. Very comfortable bed good night sleep would recommend this place. Jam jar served me quality food very enjoyable. Thanks to all great stay.
