Roundhay Park Geology Trail: 5
Marker number 5 on the Roundhay Park Geology Trail is called ‘Waterfall’. A thin layer of fine-grained sandstone within the shale causes this small waterfall. Sandstone is harder than shale so the stream isn’t able to wear it away so quickly. This is the same sandstone as seen at trail marker 3. Here it is at a lower level because it is on the down throw side of the fault that crosses the Gorge between sites 3 and 5.
