Having been to our second event at the Poplar club today, I've left feeling let down for the second time. Today's event was also unorganised, loud and chaotic There wasn't enough seats/tables for the number of people at there so we had to have a makeshift table. All the sweets were sold within the first half an hour of a 2.5 hour and unfortunately, due to the loudness of the room and disorganisation, my children had no idea what was going on so couldn't participate in the games properly. We also thought the event was a family event as the poster didnt specify children only, so we all dressed up but when we tried to enter in the 11+ fancy dress category, a lady in black stared at my partner and then effectively shooed us away. The whole thing felt very rude and my partner, who is autistic with learning difficulties, struggles to leave the house so having managed to get her there and up to the stage only to be treated that way, was upsetting to say the least. It really felt like the lady thought my partner got up there to try and con the kids out of a prize but it did sound like the dj said the adults could get up for that category so it was just a misunderstanding that could have been dealt with better. We've been to similar events at similar venues where its been better organised and really focused on families - adults and their kids could participate in all games and events. This just felt like it was a case of adults needed to buy a ticket and were expected to sit down whilst their kids ran riot. I am confused as to why I needed an adult ticket if adults weren't able to participate in any of the games or the fancy dress event. During a cost of living crisis, not everyone has money to pay for an event they can't even join in.The last point, was that the men's toilets smelled really bad - it's a small thing but on top of everything else, it was the final straw. In the end, we ended up leaving after 40 minutes because our kids weren't having fun and my neither were we.Overall, the experience has been so unpleasant that it's put us off attending the Poplar club again which is a shame because social clubs are our thing. The one positive I have is that the club itself is decorated well, quite modern and bright.
