The Cove
Arrived on a beautiful Saturday evening, place was very busy, we sat up on the terrace which was lovely apart from some rowdy/one too many pints guests who slightly tainted the beautiful scenery/atmosphere. Pizza took over an hour to come but the bar staff were fantastic and accommodating to our change of order to take away. Pizza were great and would go again but probably not during a sunny evening for food.

Just a refreshingly great place! All the staff were extremely polite and friendly, and the manager (I presume), was super organised and accommodating. We were drawn to eat there for lunch by the appealing menu. We all ordered seafood from the specials board and it was amazing. If we were staying close by we’d eat there again tomorrow

Absolutely 10 out of 10!! Great food, great atmosphere, great friendly staff. Really welcoming, kind and helpful. We stayed 6 days in the local area and went in most days! Shame to say goodbye and will be back at some point in the future! Highly recommend!

Really cool bar that you can watch the sunset from in the eve or enjoy the daytime sun on their terrace. Pizza van upstairs makes great pizzas although very popular so can be a long wait for food.

We have been on holiday here for 2 weeks and been to The Cove 5 times. We are not youngsters - over 55! We do appreciate their rules for where you can and can't sit depending on what you want to eat or just drink. It's a small place and the staff need their space to come and go easily when serving the food (which we notice has been commented on in a negative manner by other reviewers)! We have had a couple of meals here and been asked to either sit upstairs for pizza/nachos or a main meal where we have been asked to sit downstairs.Perfect in every single way whether we were enjoying just a drink in the upper terrace or food elsewhere. All of the staff are super friendly and really welcoming - we couldn't recommend this super casual and to us sort of trendy pub enough. 25 stars out of 10 - thank you for making our holiday so relaxing and perfect.Lobster Linguine was the best we have ever eaten!

One of the only places to eat and takeaway so gets very busy. The upstairs patio has the better views and serves pizza. We were downstairs and didn’t realise that you couldn’t order pizza - disappointing. In any case food was decent. The crab crostinis were nice. We also came back for takeaway coffee which was pretty good.

Terrible dining experience from start to finish. What a shame as Hope Cove is such a beautiful place. Within five minutes of sitting down and ordering drinks, we had to give the waiter our debit card as a ‘deposit’. I was hesitant but hungry so didn’t argue. Just a bit strange I thought. We then ordered food. Someone in our group wanted a pizza and another wanted a sandwich, however we were told that you are only allowed to have a pizza if you sit upstairs and a sandwich if you sit downstairs. What? I have never in all my years of dining out heard of segregating customers before based on their food choice. Absolutely ridiculous. We bit our tongue and all chose something from the same menu so that we could sit together and not be separated. We were out for a birthday meal may I add. I didn’t think it could get worse, and tried to keep positive, but the food was just as bad as the service I’m afraid - and extortionate! The food took about 40 minutes to arrive and what arrived was a dry, hard to chew pizza with a few toppings chucked on top.I’m sorry to moan, and don’t do it normally, but I am still shocked at how bad this was.

I’m still in shock 12 hours later after visiting this place, I will seek for legal advice on this situation, there is no way I will accept another family with kids to be treated the same way me and my kids we have been treated today.EXTREMELY POOR and DISAPPOINTING attitude offered, the MANAGER/OWNER in charge, probably the owner, that’s what I understand from one of the stuff young lady, she’s offered us one of the most low customer service we have seen ever in our life. After enjoying our stay in Hope Cove, It is such a shame to close my holiday having lunch at this place. The front entrance shows 2 menus for pizza and other bar food, please see photos attached to avoid ambiguity around my review. We have asked if we can sit on the upper terrace and they said that is only for pizza. Our group formed by 5 adults and 4 kids decided to sit downstairs on the street level terrace on some pub benches, then instantly one of the stuff members has asked to leave a Bank Card at the till before we order the food really that’s necessary in 2023 in such lovely little village? That was happen all the time we eat in there, we eat twice in the past 3 days. Then we have ordered the food and drinks, then I have said that my son, 5 years old kid, would like to have a pizza, then I have been told that I will need to go upstairs on the upper terrace for a pizza, because we are not allowed pizza on the lower terrace, I did asked nicely and polite to have an exception, he’s a 5 years old boy and is very hard to explain to a hungry kid that the food chosen is not available and he will need to be away from his friends to eat separate, then I did ordered one pizza for take away ignoring such absurdity imposed. The bar manager/owner said that I need to leave the table with my son if my son will eat pizza on that table, I did explained nicely and polite that is not fair for my son to see the other eating in front of him and him to be left with no food, or second option, me with him will need to leave the table to eat on a street bench on the other side of the road. Also I have explained to this lady that we don’t do this on purpose or to upset anyone, all of us we have ordered the food from the specified menu and is only one pizza for a 5 years old kid, also I have asked her how she will feel if she will be in my position with a group of friends and her son hungry, I did explained that in the past 2 days we have been in the same place twice, my son did eat once the burger from kids menu, he eat once the fish from kids menu, now he opted for a pizza just to have diversity in his alimentation. The stubborn lady asked to decide what I want to do in front of my group of people and in front of my kids if I want to order for my son what’s in the menu because the pizza will not be allowed on the table, and the pizza ordered by me upstairs for take away will be cancelled or delayed to be kept warmed and handled to me for only when we will leave the table. There is no way in 2023 for a parent and his kids to receive such treatment and attitude on such low communication level, I did read the other negative reviews on Google and Tripadvisor and all make sense.

Never normally review but we ordered £150 of pizza from the takeaway upstairs and then grabbed a pint and sat on the picnic tables out the front (of the 6 tables, 5 were empty). We were immediately asked what we were doing and were told we were fine to sit there, but the moment we finished our drinks were told they needed the table for paying customers. The lady who spoke to us was rude, and what annoyed us the most was when we moved and continued to wait for our food no one sat on the table anyway - and there were still 2 other empty tables! The pizzas were ultimately average at best and used to be much nicer (and cheaper). Will not be rushing back anytime soon.
