Herefordshire and Gloucestershire Canal, Over Basin

A reasonably pleasant place to spend 10 minutes. There are plaques to read about the areas history, it was interesting.

Updated January 2023.An interesting short stretch of canal, about a third of a mile long. The canal basin has been fully restored, but the lock into the River Severn is still to be completed. There is a small hotel with restaurant, owned by the Canal Trust but leased to a private company. A footpath under the main road takes you to the historic Telford river bridge. The site is free to visit with pedestrian access.

The Over Canal Basin was reconstructed by volunteers from the Canal Trust and the national volunteer body the Waterway Recovery Group in 2000. The canal is in water for about ½ a mile at this point.

Lovely short walk along the canal side, its very picturesque with plenty of things to see. You can get to see the river Severn too.

Was there at the request of sailing4disabled/rowing pirates had a fan time, would recommend this 100% great group of volunteers, thanks for the invite.

In an ideal world this canal system would be fully opened from end to end. But the fantastic work that has been completed is an absolute credit to every single person who volunteer's. Give them maximum support every body, let's all encourage them for the tasks ahead.An asset that can be enjoyed by all.
