Kirkton Veterinary Centre

We as a family have been using Kirktown vet and had good care of our pets for the past 20 years. However the last experience showed us no compassion and little respect for ourselves and our pet, making it difficult to move on although 8 months have past.We took our cat Sandy to kirktown Vet last Christmas due to the fact he was struggling with eating despite wanting to and was very lethargic. The vet who assessed him proceeded to tell us in graphic detail there was a big “golf ball sized” lump intestinal area.In a complete shock my mum replied our cat is not that old.The vet replied rather intensively “my niece has a brain tumour and she is 8 years old”. We took this as it was meant to be reality check. In shock we left the room, and we where told by the vet we could pick Sandy our cat up at 5 o’clock after an ultrasound.We received a phone call at 1 o’clock from a different vet saying the news was not good and we should perhaps consider putting him to sleep. They said they could however try to remove the growth through an operation, we opted for that.He said if he phoned back in 10 minutes it would be bad news and if he phoned in an hour he would have managed to contain the situation. He phoned back in a half hour saying it was not good news. And he suggested we put Sandy to sleep and then directly after asked us do you want him buried or cremated? We had no opportunity take in the news or even get the chance to say goodbye. This process was insensitive, lacked respect and was rushed. In hindsight he should have asked us to come in to discuss our options and possibly have our chance to say our goodbye. Later on when we complained, covid was used as an excuse, however at this point time covid restrictions had lifted for months and months. The receptionists where also very insensitive the next day when my father went in first thing to say goodbye to him, he was told “he is in the freezer” my father said he didn’t care he wanted to see him regardless. She then proceeded to say he’s gone to the crematorium.

We were on holiday recently in Stonehaven when our wee Frenchie hurt his back. We contacted Kirkton Vets out of hours and Andi (I hope that's how you spell her name) agreed to meet us at the practice. She was very sympathetic and put our minds at ease. After giving us the necessary medication to see our dog through the night and beyond we were most grateful. Well done Kirkton Vets!

Excelent staff it is the best place to take your dog if its unwell or for yearly reviews. The vets are fantastic with the animals

Got a lovely surprise this morning . Received paw print of my cat George and some flower seeds to plant to remember him. So unexpected. Thanks to all the staff at Kirkton vets Who treated both George and myself with a lot of care and compassion

Recently moved to Kirkton with our dogs, one of whom is a frightened girl! The staff were lovely and the vet was fantastic with her. So glad we're at Kirkton now.

Very caring and confident vet who took the time to explain the treatment my dog was about to have. She even followed up with a phone call the next day to see how my dog was.

We had an emergency visit on Christmas day after the kitten decided that she wanted some Christmas cake. Phoned the emergency line and was seen 15 minutes later. Was updated through every step of the process, she was given the best of care and I was completely satisfied that she had been well looked after. Were understanding with lag in insurance which was so generous. They have a customer for life and I won't think of ever going elsewhere after the amazing care they showed me and Iris.
