Thomas Hays Pet and Aquarium Corner

If you have a huge love for animals, like myself. Please don’t go to this pet shop. I went in today with my boyfriend today for a look at the animals and I didn’t expect to see what I saw.Birds were all squished into cages with hardly any space to move and were dirty. They looked so sad. The hamsters, rabbits and rats all squished into cages too with no room and looked a little more cleaner but still not acceptable living conditions. The fish is where it broke my heart. The tanks were not clean at all and had no plants or any decoration in them for the fish to feel comfortable and relaxed. Looked very hungry as they all followed my finger around when I put it on the glass. Broke my heart.Other than that, it was dirty, not cleaned in how long, dust and cobwebs everywhere and was so cluttered you couldn’t walk about in it much. Avoid if possible. The worst pet shop I’ve ever been to.

Do not buy anything from this place. All of the animals here are kept in terrible inhumane conditions. I saw a poor Ringneck parakeet in a cage which was far too small for her, clearly extremely stressed and missing all of her tail feathers. It was incredibly upsetting and I will not be coming back.

Been using this pet shop since I was 11 years old (18, going on 19 years) originally coming from Motherwell I have moved further away and still this is the main pet shop I use. My mum got her first dog from here long before I was born. Owner and his wife know their stuff, can't comment on any of the staff as it's always the owner or his wife I've mainly dealt with although I've probably bought pet food from their staff but can't remember the dealings with them. I'm also wondering how legit some of the negative reviews are as they seem to be describing a totally different shop. I personally know for a fact that it has been a key policy to handle the pets well.While typing this realised the owners I know we're getting on in life, maybe retired and new owners have taken over.

Dirty in and out of cages. Incredibly overcrowded birds in cages that wouldn't be suitable for the species in the first place. Fishtanks were not properly filled either which is the most simple aspect of fishkeeping. Half the products I saw for sale were not suitable for the wellbeing of the animals. Nobody acknowledged our presence which I'm grateful for at this point. Worst pet store I've seen in Europe.

Absolutely appalling service. The animals are kept in awful conditions which lead them to be unfriendly and scared of humans. We were lied to about the age of our animal, being told they were a baby while the vet said they were an adult. I took him back to get a refund and was immediately refused. He shouted and cursed at us to leave his shop. This is the worst experience I’ve ever had with any pet shop. Do not make the same mistake I did, do not buy from him.

Amazing shop, lovely animals and lovely enclosures. Owner is a lovely man, who really cares about his animals and the customer's/owners. My whole family have been customers to this shop before I was even born and I'm 20. I'll get my kids first let from here too, keep up the amazing work.

I always just pop in and out for fish supplies, but after seeing the 3.2 review and some of the comments (and being a huge animal lover) I decided to have a look around the whole shop yesterday. All of the animals seemed to be very well cared for (I'm guessing they wouldn't still be in business otherwise). I had a good look at all their fish in the aquariums at the back, which I didn't realise were there before. One stark contrast that I noticed in comparison to the chain store suppliers ... their fish all look healthy and are being fed (something that the chain stores don''t do because they don't want to clean out the tanks). Thanks to breeding, I have an endless supply of fish, but if I needed to buy any, I would definitely recommend Thomas Hays. I've bought fish from a chain store before which were riddled with worms, and I've had to spend days cleaning and disinfecting tanks.

This shop is now great pets are well looked after shop has been scrubbed up well, I bought a Syrian hamster last June and he is thriving the shop was bad at one time but not now people should leave that in the past as it has vastly improved it’s standards. And care of the animals

Disgusting, dirty horrible little pet shop, cages and tanks were unsuitable and animals looked extremely unhappy. 4 large adult rats to a tiny cage with no toys or areas to hide from direct light. Birds kept in tiny cages and covered in filth. Owner(s) should be stripped of their right to keep and sell any animals. Will be logging complaints with the SSPCA and the council.

Has an excellent selection of birds and marine life as well as other pets which vary depending on when you are lucky enough to pop in. Also has everything else you would need to buy to give your new pet/addition to your family a great quality of life; vast array of foods, feed bowls, water bottles/bowls, treats, toys, pet homes and beds galore as well as breeding equipment, the list goes on... Brilliant shop and really knowledgeable and friendly staff. If you love the animals of this earth, you’ll love this place.
