Great place for a family hike with some awesome views (even you can see ugly Manchester on the horizon ;) It is worth going there to spend some time outside far from the city and pollution.

I've been running & hiking to the Two Lads (on Boltons side of the boundary), and I've seen the cairn(s) change many a time in those years.Today, I'm disappointed to see it fenced off. Out of character and not in keeping with the wildness of the moorland, but unfortunately, vandalism, disrespect for our countryside has probably enforced this.

Just (literally) West of Winter Hill are two cairns. I'm not sure of their actual history, although there's mention of them being neolithic.There is a rumour knocking about that there's two prince's buried here. One under each cairn, I doubt it, but it is interesting to think.You can get to it from George's Lane. There's a couple of laybys you can park in and it's about a 15-20 minute walk, depending on where you park and now fast you walk.
