Heard positive things about this place, and the reviews look good.I visited and was greeted warmly and made to feel welcome. Which makes it difficult to write this review, but one must be honest.I paid for 6 sweet offerings, which were a chocolate brownie, creme snegl, kanel snegl, chokolade kugle, and a custard spandauer. In a word.. disappointed! The brownie was an over sugarded product with no taste of chocolate what so ever. It had a crackle like bite (probably because of the excess in a sugar glaze). Tasted nothing like a brownie!Sadly, most of the pastries I purchased were of similar disappointment. The chokolade kugle looked interesting but tasted like a cheap cookie dough rolled into a ball and coated with inferior chocolate and sprinkles. It tasted like something from a nusery/primary school cooking class! Not good! The creme snegl was underwhelming.. no flavour. Pointless. However, the custard spandauer tasted ok. It still tasted like a basic level custard pastry that I would not spend good money on, especially at the price they charge for it.Honestly, things looked good, but everything tasted of a poor quality. There was not one single item that tasted rich, satisfying, or balanced in flavour. The branding is nice... but the proof is definitely not in the pudding here! I wanted to like this place so much, but Brød did not deliver. The staff were very nice and the place looks great. My review is only for the sweet items I purchased. The savoury items looked great, but it is unlikely I would want to risk further disappointment. In a nutshell, the items at Brød tasted of low quality ingredients and did not justify the high price of their products. I would highly recommend looking towards Tŷ Melin bakery for your sweet fix.

I have waited now many months before writing this review. I visited Brod in Penarth again today to drink a cafe latte and to eat and Danish pastry. Not again I thought when I had a sip of the lukewarm coffee. I do own a professional barista espresso machine. I know all about not scalding the milk but such a cold coffee? I didn't have to wait for the coffee. The coffee was brought to me straight away. There was a young lady and I went to drink a coffee in Brod at least once per week. I stopped going there because of the lukewarm coffee I was served. I do like the vegan Toffee Apple Danish because it isn't too sweet. The cakes like lemon drizzle cake are too fluffy and far too sweet. One day I asked for 5 poppy seeds. A very young blonde girl said that they don't have any. I didn't say anything but when she saw my astonished face she looked at her watch and said very rude:we open at 9." And her face you should have seen her face. You might think that I turned up 5 minutes before closing or at 12pm. It was 9.30am. That's 30 minutes after opening. I am not a young school girl

I passed by here yesterday and was stopped in my tracks by the smell of fresh bread and funny enough pizza. They had just unloaded some fresh loaves including the pizza bread with sourdough and damn was it good. The staff were lovely, friendly and helpful, one lady even asked about my shirt and we ended up talking about the old Worms Armageddon games lol.I will absolutely be returning in future and have already recommended them to friends :)

Brod in Penarth is like a home away from home. I can highly rate the cosy and delicious coffee and apple snegl, but arguably most importantly, the staff are just wonderful. I always feel so looked after by them and they all not only work so hard, but bring a warm, welcoming and joyful feel to the place. You can always tell when a team is special and the Penarth team most certainly are. I hope they never leave!

Great little bakery and cafe in the centre of Penarth. An interesting selection of breads, pastries and even pizza. The different Danish pastries are really great.Great atmosphere inside and always very clean and tidy.Lots of choice for all diets.Plenty of hot drink options to order alongside the bakery.
