Cann House Care Home

My father went to Cann House for end of life care. The Staff were really friendly and caring towards Dad and the family. Dad was treated with compassion and dignity at all times. At each stage they explained exactly what was happening and gave us the time we needed.

If I’m honest this doesn’t even deserve a star! An extremely disappointing care home. Unfortunately we did not have an option of where my grandfather was sent after Derriford Hospital needed beds and due to a lack of rooms in closer homes he was put here. We were lucky in that it was only a few weeks, I feel deeply saddened that we let my grandad down by having him in this home. Call bells get ignored, the food is unacceptable , staff tell you that they are giving hourly care , we were there constantly and we never saw this. We cared for him ourselves! The bedrooms are dark, dingy and not inviting or bright. I feel very let down with the service and care offered here, we eventually got the all clear to have end of life care at home but unfortunately my grandad passed the very same day. Would the staff subject their friends and family to this care home, I expect not.

Not overly impressed. The staff seem to do their best but always appear short staff. Had several issues since my wife went in. On main door it states, no mask, no entry, no exceptions and yet staff walk around without mask, or down on their chins

Awful place..my husband was in there was almost 6 months…had a bath 3 times in the time he was there…not always washed daily…didn’t always have a pad changed…staff was sometimes rude to him….food was often cold…when our family complained to CQC…plus Safeguarding…the care manager manager Sam….asked him to leave…couldn’t get into the Chapel as it’s full of rubbish…his bathroom floor was nailed down in places..not stuck down and it should be…1 of the worse things bout this home..my home left there….but he was given someone else meds…...should be shut down…

I visited the home recently after my dear mum had passed away. What can I say, the grounds are beautiful, the staff were so warm and friendly and I can’t thank them enough for all they did for my beautiful mum and also the support they gave my dad. She wasn’t in there for long due to her passing, but the environment and grounds were peaceful and the perfect place for her. Matron in particular was a real comforting, genuine lady, and I am so pleased my mum got to experience her last few days in such a beautiful place. It’s safe to say that my family ‘dodged a bullet’ by not placing our loved one at this home. The initial visits were great and we were excited to have found a suitable place for our loved one to spend their final moments. They were equally excited at the prospect and it all seemed to be unfolding perfectly. However an issue arose that we discussed with the management team of the home and then the whole tone and experience changed with immediate effect. Assessments that were booked for our loved one were cancelled at short notice on more than 3 occasions, building up hope and excitement for our loved one only to be withdrawn with little warning. When an assessment did eventually take place justifications without substance were put in place to prevent our loved one being ‘able’ to stay at the home.From our experience it would seem that if you challenge the management team on aspects you are not happy with you are seen as a threat. We have been victims of and witnesses to an aggressive style of management boarding on arrogant and lacking at all levels in professionalism.The grounds and building are beautiful but my advice to you is ‘tread carefully’ when considering this home for your loved ones. Remember that as beautiful as a rose is, it still has thorns and must be handled carefully. We hope that your experience is better than ours and you don’t get ‘pricked’ like we did.

I can not explain well enough how amazing the nursing staff and team are at this care home! Sadly my Grandad has now passed, but the time he was in Cann House he was treated with the upmost respect and dignity everyday. He was cared for tremendously well, he was treated with compassion, genuinely loved by the staff and was never uncomfortable. When we as a society realise care staff only have one pair of hands, we might appreciate the fantastic job they do a lot more! As a family we are extremely grateful for everything and everyone at this care home and what they did for my Grandad Terence Kingscott. So thank you.

I am glad to say none of my loved ones have been subjected to the lack of compassion in this house. I say house as home" is something more!Compassion is sadly & little expected in this world today

I can not thank everyone enough at Cann House for all of the recent support and comfort they have provided to us as a family through the care of my grandad.From entering the very first time to the welcoming desk and signing in, I felt this dementia friendly home was the perfect place for him. It felt incredibly safe and there was always many staff available. There was sufficient parking for our cars andover the short 3weeks that he resided here we all visited several times and he was extremely well cared for physically and emotionally.I can not fault the service this home provided to him. It was an honour and privilege for him to rest here in his final days and recieved excellent care.I wanted to take this opportunity to reflect on my thoughts of Cann House and the staff for all they did. The cleanliness and overall standards certainly excelled my expectations and i would recommend this home to everyone. My uncle was a resident here for just over 2 years and the care and compassion was 100%. The patients all have amazing food, lovely bedroom and amazing round tbe clock care. They have a fantastic activities co-ordinator that arranges daily activities for the patients ( if it's not bingo its remonising on war years or celebrating valentines day. More recently during COVID as we have been unable to visit our loved ones Leighann has been organising face time to see and chat to relatives.) My uncle finding it hard along with others due to modern technology.There is always a happy atmosphere in Cann House and I know that my Uncle loved it there. He always loved his Sunday Roast.Thank you for all you do and keep up the great work. You are all amazing
