Was contacted about a job, I didn't think I was qualified but was encouraged to apply anyway. I was informed on the phone by the recruitment consultant in question that the first stage interview was an informal chat to go through my CV and tell me more about the role, this was repeated on multiple occasions - it was stressed that it would not be a formal interview and would just be an opportunity to find out more. I joined the remote interview and it turned out to be a structured, competency based/situational interview that I was entirely unprepared for. Questions like Give me an example of a time you've used your leadership skills to motivate a team during a stressful situation" do not strike me as informal
