Bed was very uncomfortable (room 107) and guttering at rear of property, all I could hear all night was rain dripping from the gutters. We stayed in room 117 a week previously, bed was good and it didn't rain so no dripping

This was an overnight stop on our holiday to Scotland. The location is great, just off the M6, although it's a bit inconvenient on the way up because you have to go to the next junction and come back on yourself!! And when you leave the next morning you have to go down to the next junction and leave the motorway. The rooms need refurbishment but they are clean and tidy.

Firstly staff were great, so no criticism of them whatsoever. Sadly though, the hotel itself is a different matter. The hallways are extremely dated with dirty carpets and tatty wall coverings. The smell wafting about the building is horrendous, not very welcoming at all. This sort of thing wouldn't normally bother me for a single night, but things went downhill from here. For whatever reason, I ended up in an accesability room, this could have been down to my company booking the cheapest room, or could just be the only room left when I'm arrived, unfortunately no other room available though... Again, not a problem, I have stayed in plenty of these before. The room itself did seem a tad dated but it seemed some effort had been made to update it. There were only two single beds which were actually smaller than a standard single and very narrow, but had been pushed together to make a single...which would have been fine if I hadn't found myself sliding into the gap all the time, so only one tiny bed was usable, this was not comfortable at all. Then there was the smell in the room, which I couldn't quite put my finger on. It seemed to eminate from the bathroom but saturated the whole room. It smelt like some sort of cleaner, but really punjent and innescapable. It wasn't pleasant at all and very off-putting. You couldn't have the window open either due to the noise. All of the above I could have forgiven and overlooked if it wasn't for the shocking quality of sleep. My room backed on to the truck stop area of the services, so all I could hear was refrigerated lorries chugging away, or trucks moving around- as you'd expect at a busy services, this was complimented by the road noise from the motorway. It was clearly evident that the windows weren't up to the job for where the hotel is located. There was also some sort of electronic buzzing or whistling in the room, I couldn't figure out where it was coming from and gave up in the end. The hallway also seemed to be quite noisy and whenever doors were opened, my room door banged really loudly.I gave it my best shot and lasted until about 2.30am when I decided enough was enough. I showered (which came out brown to begin with), dressed and hit the road. The only blessing in all of this is that I didn't have to dip into my own pocket for the room, but for nigh on £70, it would be fair to expect much better, particularly from a large chain like Travelodge.I do think I was a bit unlucky with the room, due to its location. However, really it shouldn't matter. Bottom line, the place needs a refurb and bringing up to standard.

Travelodge services are basic. It's not the Hilton! The rooms had recently had new carpets and it stunk. But not of a new carpet smell, not even glue it just wasn't great smelling and so we had to sleep with the window open all night, not great whilst next to a motorway. The bed was very comfy though and the member of staff who was in duty was exceptionally helpful.

Bed are uncomfortable. Bad smell. Not so clean overall. Many thanks to manager. I have to stay one night /week here, replacing a colleague and the manager decided the room don't have to be cleaned even if someone else will sleep next day, because the room was booked for 2 nights. So i have to sleep and use the same room when someone else sleept before me. No bed sheets, no toilet no shower. Dear manager, i will be so happy to swap this bloody room with you.

A damp feeling and smelly room was the big let down for this place. When we were shown to the room the fan was on and windows were open, and it wasn't a hot day. There was a slight smell but nothing too bad at first but, after leaving it off overnight then the room really started to smell funny. Great staff and location though.
