To put it simply, Arthur’s Belfast Troubles Tour is a must do while in Belfast.Aside from his apparent knowledge of everything and everyone in Belfast, Arthur’s own personal story (which I’ll summarise as involving Ed Sheeran, The Beatles and Bill Clinton) is what makes the tour truly unique. The fact that Arthur is well-known in the Belfast area by locals is a testament to his talents. He has this knack for pointing out individuals in the crowd and casually dropping lines such as 'oh, that guy used to be in the IRA'.If you’re looking to receive a lecture full of information, Arthur also delivers there (which I can attest to as a university student).

Arthur was an incredible guide! He beautifully interwove his personal experience growing up in Belfast with the larger historical context of the conflict in Northern Ireland. This walking tour was easily my favorite experience in Belfast. If you can only plan for one tour, do this one!

Fantastic tour. I learned so much. Our guide Arthur was a wonderful storyteller, and his life story is woven through the years and events of the troubles. I learned so much more than just history, as Arthur shared his personal reflections as we moved across the city. The tour prompts you to think about some big questions. How can a city of full of the warmest friendliest people also be a city divided by hate? How can good people do bad things? How does such division and polarisation start? Can such history be escaped and if so how? Questions where Belfast has much to teach the world. The tour is also great fun - Arthur is warm, funny , energetic, sharp witted and whilst we learned about dark subjects we also learned about good and brave people and the 80s punk scene! A lot of thought has gone into this tour - it is a beautifully crafted and performed journey through places, history and humanity.

“Two eyes on the past makes us blind. An eye on the past and an eye on the future, makes us wise.”It’s really challenging to put into words how meaningful, relevant and important Arthur’s tour was. At its core it’s about exploring what it means to be human, and how to see the humanity in one another. And in order to explore both of those questions, we first need to look at the violent ways in which colonialism and colonial thinking robs us of our ability to be human in relation to other humans.Arthur’s historical perspective is both balanced and unflinching. We found ourselves moving between laughter and tears, sometimes within the timespan of a short, Belfast block’s walk. He courageously and fearlessly engages the nuance and complexity of topics otherwise avoided. Although it’s days after the tour, we find ourselves still returning to it and processing what we’ve seen and heard. On the one hand, it’s tempting to walk away and think that Arthur’s tour is about the historical context of the Troubles. But on the other, and arguably more important hand, Arthur’s message transcends the borders of Ulster county. It’s an urgent and timely warning about the devastating consequences of reducing the complex uncertainty of the world into binary terms, of reducing the complexity of our human existence into a simple “us” and “them.”Do not go on this tour to simply learn about the Troubles. Go on this tour to understand and interrogate your own sociopolitical context and understanding — and then keep one eye on your own history and one eye on building a future that includes everyone.Go raibh maith agat, Arthur.

It was a great tour. Learnt quite a bit regarding the troubles from Arthur our guide as he grew up in the area while it happened in the 60s. If you like walking and learning about the past then this is certainly a tour that shouldn't be missed.

We did the Walls and Bridges tour with Arthur last Saturday. What can I say; I think Arthur is the best your guide I’ve ever come across.Character. Knowledgeable. Easy to follow. Humour and all underpinned by an honest and real account of the city and its past. From start to end, an entertaining and sobering experience that was enjoyable and we both learned a lot from.A highlight of our time in Belfast; and a real pleasure to have shared the 3 hours spent on the tour. Thank you.Sam and Laura, July 2023.

We arranged a Troubles tour with a fairly large group (31) with colleagues from across the globe. For 2 hours Arthur guided us through the city center of Belfast and took us along the history but also weaving in present-day stories about Belfast. With excellent audio devices, the story is very easy to follow. Because Mister Magee has spent his whole life in Belfast and has a great sense of humor and interacts with the group a lot, this was in my opinion the best walking tour I have ever attended. Would recommend! Thank you Arthur.

It was a wonderful tour. Arthur our guide provided us with lots of information about “the troubles”. It is a dark period of the history of north Ireland. Hopefully there are lessons learned for the future. We enjoyed it a lot.

Arthur's experience, deep knowledge, humour and charm make this tour a must for any trip to Belfast. It is a learning experience, wrapped beautifully in a warm welcome to Belfast. You'll get the best tour for the Peace Wall and all the streets of Belfast that will get you there too! His passion and dedication are inspiring. He followed up via a message after the tour with all info that he had promised - what a treat!
