St Oswald's Church, Winwick

As an architectural ecclesiologist this is one piece of historical work not to be missed! It oozes lots of history in every corner. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and I will return.

Lovely child friendly service today involving all the congregation, especially the children in the making of the altar table cloth.

The Cemetery is an absolute disgrace, the stones were taken up and laid flat but then never cleaned. Even in the newer side the older graves in there are a mess. Having worked on cemeteries I can honestly say that no care is being shown at Winwick for it's ancient graves or for Local or Family History. Even the Church is locked if a service is not on, which is another disgrace and the way they have allowed St.Oswalds Well (a grade II listed monument) to become overgrown and in a state of ruin is something that the regular church goers should be ashamed of anywhere else would be applying for a lottery grant to have it restored. The only reason this church is still standing is because it is a grade 1 listed building which was mentioned in the Doomsday book otherwise it has very little to offer the passing tourists or family historians.

It's all about families, community, relationship and quality time Christ centered. Always a lovely experience with all here.

Great piece of history. Fascinating to read some of the names on the graves that go back to the 16th century. I hope they keep raising the money to keep it going.

Winwick church is a second home for me. A place where my dad grew up, and a place where my family rests in peace. We had a great visit and many moments of reminisce occurred. Well worth a visit.

Where the wedding of the Titanic captain took place, A tudor ceiling with a rare Tudor knight/clergy brass, a Tower started in 1350, mentioned in Domesday book, a 10th century anglo saxon cross head to name a few. Who would have thought so much history could be seen on the way into Warrinton. Really friendly people too highly recommended visit.
