Bury Castle (remains)
Not actually a castle but an early medieval moated manor house, building started around the mid 1300's by Sir Thomas Pilkington. Listed as an ancient monument. Not a great deal to see but still a great piece of history.

Bury Castle was an early medieval moated manor house in Bury, Lancashire (grid reference SD803108). Its remains are listed as a Scheduled Ancient Monument. The manor house was built by Sir Thomas Pilkington – lord of the manors of Bury and Pilkington, and an influential member of Lancashire's gentry – in 1469. He was given permission by Edward IV to: 'build to make and to construct walls and turrets with stone

Can't rate the castle remains 5* as its just a pile of bricks, but do find the army castle door entrance odd, as came here for remembrance day 20years a go. People drinking/drunk. How many people would fall in or out of little door in aa big door.
