JD Joinery has completed several projects for me over the last five years, which have transformed our family home and garden to a place we love. We have also used them for various industrial projects through my business, including general repairs, structural work, two new on-site office buildings, and a modern toilet and shower block. They have also converted part of my old garage into a swish new office. In all cases, I've found the Jay's (the owner) vision and interpretation of ideas to be superb. He has saved me thousands and always delivers a brilliant finished result. Jay is friendly, helpful and generally a terrific resource to call upon. I can highly recommend him.

We recently had the pleasure of working with Jay (JD Joinery) who went above and beyond to create a raised deck and pergola in our challenging and steeply sloping hillside garden, as well as rebuild some crumbling drystone walling. From start to finish, the experience was excellent, and we are absolutely thrilled with the results. So much so, we’ve asked him to do further work on our garden!We came across Jay after a Facebook recommendation when our neighbours asked us to remove our fence asap for them to install their own. Jay kindly offered to come late that night to take it down. We asked for a quote to put the fence panels back up on the other side and told him about our grand plan for a new deck on the top level, which had been on hold for a couple of years as multiple people and companies had either been unwilling to quote due to the complexity of the job and difficulties of access or had quoted crazy prices. He asked to quote for it, and came back with a very reasonable figure, so we asked him to go ahead.The garden was a complete mess, having been totally neglected since the construction of a shed necessitated excavating and moving things, so there were piles of stone, earth and rubbish all over the place and it was completely overgrown so needed clearing before we could start work, which Jay kindly helped us with.The first thing that impressed us was Jay's expertise and no-nonsense attitude. He carefully assessed the site, taking into account the steep incline and limited access, and came up with a well-thought-out plan to maximize the use of space while ensuring the structural integrity of the deck and pergola. I am one of those irritating customers that thinks they know what they’re doing, but doesn’t really, and Jay managed to tame my wilder ideas (without offending me!) and figure out how to incorporate my less insane ones, as well as my husband’s plans for a beer and wine tap in the drystone wall. In the past tradesman have just done as I’ve asked without warning me it wouldn’t work very well or look good, but Jay was honest and provided valuable suggestions that enhanced the overall design. It felt like a collaborative effort, and we felt involved and engaged in the process from start to finish.After the first couple of days of hovering over the poor bloke watching everything he did, I realized Jay really knew his stuff and his workmanship was top notch, so I left him to it and had the enjoyment of coming out after work every evening to be amazed and excited by the progress. It all happened remarkably quickly, despite a period of intense hot weather when he kindly worked in the evenings to make sure things kept moving.Jay was also extremely flexible and helpful when our neighbours decided they were not keen on the deck, and suggested alternatives which would satisfy them. This resulted in him having to undo some of his hard work and move the staircase from one side to the other, which must have been incredibly frustrating, but resulted in happy neighbours and reinstated harmony in our back gardens! Other than this additional surprise work, Jay remained on budget and completed the project quickly. He was also accommodating when I asked him to break down the fence panels and rebuild the fence to match the other side.I can’t recommend Jay enough for joinery, fencing or drystone walling. We’ve worked with a lot of tradesman whilst renovating our house over the last ten years, and with the exception of one or two gems, most have had their drawbacks – expensive, or slow, or not turning up when expected, or just not very good. We’ve had no such issues with Jay and have really enjoyed working with him, though do be prepared to buy in extra coffee and milk because he does like a brew! If you have a challenging project, especially on a steeply sloping hillside, Jay is your man. We couldn't be happier with our new raised deck and pergola and I can’t wait for some sunshine to enjoy it.Photos show the mess before, during rebuilding the wall, levelling the site, deck, and 5-8 show the completed job.
