Alton, The Star Camping and Caravanning Club Site

Get the obvious out of the way- it's in a great location for Alton Towers, around 5 minutes drive to get there (sadly not really walkable due to the roads being unsuitable and distance).However, the facilities are well past being in need of an upgrade. The play area is rundown. The toilet blocks are barely fit for purpose. The showers were nice and hot but small and nowhere to put your dry garments to try and keep them that way. They also close both facilities blocks simultaneously (against their own published rules) which is both bizarre and frustrating. And they do it at peak morning time. Sadly on my visit I also found some of the staff to be rude, sarcastic and demeaning whilst implying the customer is lying. A first for me with the camping and caravanning club.The grass pitches are very undulating and on slopes, difficult to get level. The hardstanding ones looked better.

Diamond of a site.Clean!Well kept, great for families, really friendly site. Quite big after walking round,Showers are clean, toilets too.Little pub over the road, worth a visit, book tho.Really nice place would absolutely go back.

Lovely site with clean facilities, stayed here whilst visiting Alton Towers and Dovedale. Friendly and helpful staff. Kids loved it.

We have been passed this facility but never entered. Looks to be well liked by campers in the summer months but can get pretty grim during autumn and winter on the Staffordshire moors.

Have stayed here camping before and is a lovely camp site. This time we stayed in a pre pitched tent. I loved it as did the kids.Alton towers is a few mins away in the car and there are various supermarkets within about 15 mins drive. Showers and toilets clean. Will hopefully be visiting again soon.

Fantastic location for Alton Towers. Good toilet & shower facilities. Good sized pitches. Nice playground.

We loved the site, the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly and the location perfect for our plans and well maintained.The only negative comment I can make is that the cleaning of the ablutions could be better organised. Between 10:30 and 12:00 there is no washing or shower facilities available because both ablution buildings are closed simultaneously at this time. Campers who plan to leave at the midday deadline are unable to take a shower after dismantling their tents and commencing their onward/homeward journey. Especially in rainy muddy conditions, it would be nice to be able to clean up before departure.

Amazing camping site. Very clean and friendly staff. Only 5 min drive to Alton Towers would recommend this to anyone.

Great campsite, everything close by and well maintained. Fantastic views and only 5 minutes from Alton Towers.Staff are super friendly and couldn't be more helpful. Definitely come here again.
