Nice pub but the Ship provided better service. Booked a table, waited a while to be seated when arrived. A couple were seated after us but were served before and had the drinks in a few minutes whereas we waited a good while before we were served. Food was very good though.

We booked for 7 on a Sunday to try their Carvery. The restaurant was busy but we were served quickly. The menu was extensive with options for “the weans” and adults alike. The Carvery was well laid out with 4 types of roast meat and vegetables.I haven’t tasted meat like this for years! Tasty, succulent and generous portions. My brother had the burger and commented, also about the taste of the beef. Stunning.Starters and Puddings were all equally as good.Beautiful village with oodles of charm.Highly recommend.

We had originally booked another hotel but left due to massive deficiencies and ended up being completely satisfied here! The Masonic Arms Gatehouse is a really tastefully designed hotel with an excellent restaurant. Anna was very welcoming and provided us with the best breakfast and valuable info on places of interest. Overall, a great stay, we felt very comfortable and will be happy to come back!

We stopped here for our evening meal. Teenagers can be awkward with eating out, but the friendly team were very helpful in getting us what we wanted and adjusting the meals accordingly. I had the West Coast scallops after the special of the day tomato and basil soup. The soup was sublime with a gorgeous flavour. Scallops are a difficult dish but it was presented and cooked to perfection with complimenting black pudding lemon served in a light but delicious pesto sauce. My wife had the lam shank, , this too was beautifully presented and tasted delicious attributed with a fine selection of freshly cooked vegetables. My fussy son had the masonic burger and with the few requested adjustments ate all. I was impressed. My daughter had the ceasar salad and she enjoyed it thoroughly, in fact there was a generous serving on her plate. For a family 2 adults and 2 Teenagers it cost £87. I expected to pay much more, so this meal was absolutely fantastic value for money. I would certainly return and definitely recommend to anyone unsure of where to dine out. Competition in the food industry is very intense in this area but they performed a 4 star meal in my opinion with the simple selective menu and fantastic offer for specials. The staff are very friendly and accomodating to people palate preferences. The service was prompt and all the team worked coherent with one another. Lovely atmosphere which would probably entice me to stay in the place for a short break in the future. Highly satisfactory eating experience

What a great find! Amazing food and friendly staff. Had dressed crab followed by the most delicious breast of duck. Husband had a most generous portion of scallops, beautifully cooked with black pudding. Compliments to the chef!

Gorgeous village pub; food lived up to expectations and then some. First night I had a flat iron steak which was on the specials board. Served medium, it was nice and juicy with home made coleslaw and chips like my mum used to make. Second night was fish and chips. Nice light batter with chips as described above(!) and perfect garden peas. To top this off, a raspberry sundae with meringue, whipped cream etc. served in a proper tall sundae glass. It looked perfect; almost too good to eat. Except I suffer for my art and ate it. And it was as good as it looked and then some.

Delightful staff including a Spanish lady and her neice who come every summer to work here. The food is excellent. I had an avocado and chickpea salad for a starter followed by a hot smoked salmon Caesar salad. Yum yum, and healthy too.

Absolutely appalling customer service from the owner. For the past 5 months, we've enjoyed our time at the pub – great food and excellent staff, except for the owner. However, my recent experience was highly disappointing. I ordered a children's chicken dinner for my dog, which the bar staff confirmed was fine and in a joking manner, advising me not to feed her from the plate When the meal arrived, I placed it in a dog bowl and began cutting it into smaller pieces. The owner's response was completely unacceptable. She shouted across the bar, making me uncomfortable, and then came within inches of my face to drill me for what I’ve done, telling me I’m not in my living room.A piece of advice for Sophia: treat the locals as kindly as you do the tourists. If two staff members told me it was okay to feed my dog, there's no reason to shout at me.And for those still reading this review, be cautious about sitting before 6 pm. She approached us at 5:50, cleared the menu we were reading for our 6pm order. She proceeded to inform us this table is now reserved and then pointed out 5 other tables we also can’t sit at. She eventually allowed us to sit at the table under the T.V. We ended up eating there, only for her to remove the reserved sign from our original table and casually remark, You could have sat there

A warm and friendly pub with a good atmosphere and. Good selection of drinks. Pretty location, nice beer garden for summer. Gastro pub menu focuses on local produce. Choice of more or less formal dining areas. We always prefer the bar area next to the fire.
