Bowderbeck Self Catering Holiday Cottage
This jewel nestled in the breathtaking valley of Buttermere is a rare find . There are few places to stay in the area affording easy access to the many walks available. The cottage has been recently refurbished to a very high standard . Stylish , comfortable , warm with great showers , log burning stove and heated boot room . Local pubs and eateries within walking distance . The view is otherworldly. Looking forward to a return visit as soon as availability allows .

Bowderbeck is an amazing cottage. Set in the beautiful Buttermere, it's just far enough away from the village to feel like you are truly in the middle of nowhere, but only a 5 min walk to the pub for tea or the farm shop for an ice cream. The cottage itself is one of the best I've stayed in. It retains loads of it's original features - stone floors, mullioned windows, big fireplace - but has been tastefully decorated to be really comfortable. The kitchen has everything you need to be able to cook, and the dining room is packed full of games and books to keep everyone entertained. The terrace is the perfect place to watch the sun go down over the mountains and the kids had endless fun in the stream and on the tree swing. There are loads of both easily accessible and more challenging walks straight out of the front door and if you ever felt the need to go anywhere else, Keswick is only 25 mins away in the car.If you really need it theres wifi signal too - just don't tell the children !All in all we had a really brilliant week - we'll definitely be back.If

We've been staying in Bowderbeck for years, since my boys were children and we recently went back with grandchildren. It was a wonderful stay, as always and my husband and I were able to utilise the renovation to the downstairs part of the house. However Buttermere lake is now so popular with paddle boarders and kayaker etc it has lost the beautiful tranquility it once had.

Beautiful cottage set on the edge of Lake buttermere. Fully equipped for all your needs, including paddle boards. No TV which was bliss. Access is quite steep and would be an issue for anyone unsteady on their feet. Parking for 1 car, nearby parking available within walking distance for more vehicles.

Fabulous spot. Just back from great weekend in Bowderbeck . Brilliant location, beautifully presented, very comfortable, log burning stove, tons of room, really well equipped and love that you can do great walks straight from door, new extension with veranda and stunning views. We loved it.

We spent a week at Bowderbeck with friends and had a fantastic week. The cottage's location is close to both Buttermere village and the water (5-10 minute walk) which meant we didn't have to use the car that much. There is plenty of good walks from the cottage and can go further afield for a whole host more. The cottage is well equipped with a drying room which was great for wet and muddy kit. The kitchen has a good selection of pans, etc. The beds were incredibly comfortable. The sideboard was packed with games and jigsaws which was great. We loved the peace and quiet of the setting and was nice to disconnect from the world (there's isn't a TV), on clear nights the stars were amazing. All in all, one of the best holiday cottages I've stayed in and we will return.

We recently stayed at Bowderbeck for a long weekend with my wife and young baby. The cottage was furnished to a very high standard, with the best drying/ boot room. Amazing decking and private picnic area that would be great in summer. Set in the most beautiful location, it was the perfect retreat. We found some great walks that weren't too strenuousand only 10mins to the local pub which served nice food and drink. Definitely planning to go back next year.

Beautiful location and scenery, plenty of room and has most, If not all anything you need.Perfect location that’s just out the way, but isn’t far from Buttermere village for food or the lake - the cottage provides paddle boards and life jackets which was really enjoyable!!The stream is really calming to have right in the garden. The only problem is parking - there’s little to no room for more than 1 car and the alternative car park is far away and can be busy - but you’re coming to the lakes to walk and not drive anyway!

I need to learn new superlatives to describe this place! Set on the rise above Buttermere, there is a commanding view of the valley with the lake and surrounding fells including Haystacks - allegedly one of Alfred Wainwright's favourite climbs. If you enjoy private isolation, quaint comfort and a base for walking, cycling or relaxing, this is hard to beat. Since we last came, there has been an extension with a new king size bedroom and en suite shower / WC of very high quality. The porch is larger too making it easier to sit and watch the beauty of the Buttermere valley. The cottage is well equipped though we took our own bread maker for added convenience. There are two further double bedrooms on the first floor including one with a 6' bed, one with a double and single in it and one single. It is VERY quiet at night and even though there is a public footpath next to the cottage, that was rarely used. The stream - beck - runs through the garden so caution for unattended toddlers. Sheep often find their way in the garden to graze. There is the new addition also of a brick built bbq at the rear of the property. We had a clear night on the last night and the star gazing was incredible. No light pollution and the milky way as clear as day - or perhaps night! Any negatives? If you're over 5' 7'' (approx), watch out for your head on the low beams. Can't recommend this place highly enough. It is not at the budget end of cottages but, as ever, you get what you pay for! I've added a photo of the cottage from High Snock Rigg which shows its position rather well.

Had such a great stay here recently. Amazing location for walking the local fells or around the lake. Cottage has everything you need. Really comfortable and plenty of space to keep all your gear. Highlight for my two boys (12&15) was tea in the bridge ( 5min walk) and paddle boarding on Buttermere lake. Plus a very late night game of Lakeland version of monopoly. ( thanks to Bowderbeck for supplying / sharing both!)Highly recommended(Selection of pictures taken from the lovely outdoor balcony deck area and lake)
