Gamlingay Wood
We walk there daily with our dogs, they love it and we love it. Very pretty with lots of wild flowers, wildlife and mostly well maintained paths. Joined on to the main wood is Segley Wood, which is a great dog walk area, lacking in trees though the name suggests otherwise but throughout the year different flowers and open spaces. The bags of dog poo and unbagged poo is a bit annoying, especially as it tarnishes all dog walkers, but it's not as bad as other places nearby. It's very clean otherwise and well maintained. We are extremely lucky to have it on our doorstep.

Nice place for a Sunday afternoon stroll. Interesting clearing in the middle, called Ring Ditch, that felt like the Wierwood grove at Winterfell ( with a stretch of the imagination)

The wood itself is lovely to walk through with tonnes of paths, I would suggest slightly more signage so you don't get lost!It also helps that there is a place to park your car on Avells Way, which has 1 public footpath and 1 permissive footpath leading from it.

Lovely wood and meadow for walking the dogs. Not really suitable for wheelchair users. Car parking along entrance track. No bins available for dog poo. Was lovely to see the early purple orchid amongst the bluebells today.

Nice and quiet walk in the woods. Bluebells plants are all over the ground above which are tall trees. There is no parking area. We parked our car on road side but only spaces for 4-5 cars.

Good size woodland to walk around, plenty of paths, so great for multiple visits. A good selection of different habitats, pine trees, ancient woodland etc. Dogs welcome, and it never seems to be busy. A very peaceful place to spend a few hours.

Gamlingay Woods is a super place to walk, relax and explore. Come the spring and summer months the huge expanse of flower meadows on the northern end of the woods, is awash with nature. The paths and rides in the woods are alive with butterflies, with the silver washed fritillary a joy to behold. As a few here have suggested, it is a great place to take your dogs but, they must be kept on a leash. Some folks don't appreciate that the woods and the flower meadows are an official nature reserve. So the wildlife that grows, lives and nest on the ground, can easily be disturbed.

We have visited many times, but last year the access road, which is also the only place to park, was closed, which we put down to Covid restrictions. Having checked online today that it is fully open, we went and found the track still closed, and had to go on to Waresley Wood. The car park and verges outside were rammed, but we found a spot. It was our first time there, and more difficult walking - my wife had to give up, whilst I did a much quicker trip than we would have. I didn't think the Bluebell vistas were as stunning either. I have since re-visited the website, which says no car park, which I hadn't noticed before we went. If the track remains closed, we will be unable to visit again as we are elderly, and the walk from Waresley car park is too far. Such a shame.

Beautiful bluebells. 'The' place to see them. April May is the best time. Heard in news, that these are vulnerable plants and may get extinct if global warming is not addressed.
