S. Edward, King and Martyr, Shaugh Prior

A lovely little Church with a beautiful C15th octagonal font cover with exquisite carved wooden figures. In the porch, a primitively carved face on one of the ceiling supports. The Church organ is rather lovely & brightly painted. Beautiful view s from the windows of neighbouring country side.Large parts of the graveyard are managed for wildflowers & a little robin followed me as I took a look around the headstones which included some lovely folkart carving.The Church is part of a cluster of open-minded, tolerant churches, with an emphasis on religious tolerance and a welcoming attitude, challenging prejudice on grounds of race, gender, sexual preference.The village is tiny so not many parishioners to fund much needed repairs - the Church is in the process of getting the gutters fixed so there will be less damp, and the precious wood carving will be protected. At present the paint is peeling and you can see repair is needed. But that somehow adds to the charm.
