Delicious food, good sized portions, a little bit of a wait but worth it. The sauteed chicken breast was the best! Children's chicken nuggets were made of real chicken chunks" as my daughter called it rather than the frozen stuff. Quick and friendly bar service. Great value. They also sell fresh eggs and essentials

Massive portions, super quick service, incredible panorama. Car park a bit small. Deep fried brie, deep fried whitetails as starters were perfect. Special of the day cheesy cauliflower the best I ever had in my life. I wish I went there before during my holidays

We came here for an afternoon drink. We got a warm welcome on arrival and were pleasantly surprised at the wide selection of drinks available. We sat in the main bar area but there are several seating areas to choose from including outside when the weather is fine. We didn't eat during this visit but there were several diners and their food looked very good. We'd happily come here again.

Stopped in for some lunch. It was ok, no complaints and reasonable prices. Place was a bit uncared for and not the cleanest. Very nice sat outside to eat.

What a shame this inn has changed ownership. We used to eat there frequently and meals excellent with excellent catering for allergies. However we have tried twice since change of ownership food shrunk in size and not as nice. Today cheesy chips could not even be adequate cold with grated cheese not melted, disgusting. Such a let down on what used to be such a lovely place to eat

It’s a Saturday night, and after well over a year since our group of friends have been able to meet due to multiple issues in each of our own families lives, we were finally able to meet up together and enjoy a lovely meal! Being local to us, and knowing we could dine and hopefully support the railway project work as well, what a perfect place to come together. Having phoned and pre booked a table a couple of weeks prior to our arrival, there was no mention of any early closing during the phone call. When we all arrived, pretty much spot on time, we ordered food, and sat and enjoyed the wait by having a good chat. The food arrived, and we all pretty much enjoyed our food, certainly the burgers we had were amazing!! Perfect!! Possibly meat from Besshill farm shop - delicious!! Compliments to the chef! We then ordered deserts and coffees. And they were all great as well, and the chef that served us was friendly as well, lovely. After finishing our food and drinks, it was just after 9pm. We did start to notice that there were fewer and fewer people around, but no one mentioned about any early closing, no one asked any subtle questions along the lines of ‘we’re wanting to finish early, so unless we can get you anything else…’ so we were quite oblivious to the goings on in the rest of the pub/restaurant as we couldn’t see anything, lights going off, etc. A local neighbour popped in to buy a bottle of wine, as he said he does every now and then, he approached us and asked where any staff were as all the lights were off apart from where we were sat. At this point we realised, having been tipped off by the local, that we were indeed the last people in the establishment. Still no one said anything to us about the place closing, no one made any noises or anything about the place closing early. But when the female member of staff returned to ‘serve’ the local who left empty handed and disappointed even though it was only around 9:20pm ish because they weren’t able to serve him anything else, we assumed it was because they were closing early. So we got up and started to head out. I did my usual turn and thank them for a nice meal etc. and asked if it was normally this quiet for a Saturday evening, at which point was told yes when it’s an ‘out of season’ Saturday night and it’s not worth them keeping everything on for the evening if no one’s there. Fair enough I thought, however it was clear that we had almost inconvenienced this blonde haired female member of staff having outstayed our welcome due to us not being able to read hers or anyone else’s minds earlier, although this sentiment was not entirely clear until we were outside in the car park. As we chatted and walked across the car park, content with belly’s full of good grub, enjoying the final few moments of a catch up, it was made clear by the female blonde staff member that we had indeed outstayed our welcome as she floored it out of the car park and tested the ability of her Ford fiestas suspension struts as she floored it passed us and out over the cattle grid that clearly failed to reduce her exit speed in any way. We can only assume this was her way of saying ‘f@ck off’ as we wondered if she was tempted to take a side swipe at us with her fiesta as she headed off. I’m glad none of us had brought our children with us. For clarity, we saw no signage for early closing, none of us were told about early closing, and none of our group has ever been able to or can currently read minds; we are all approachable local people, and if anyone had mentioned or even hinted at early closing, we would have been more than happy to oblige. The burgers were blooming delicious, and I may have to go back for a burger! But there’s no way I would trust this place for a group meal ever again, I couldn’t take the chance in case they tainted what should have been a nice and special meal with friends or family. A disappointing end.

Very much a local drinkers pub, especially out of season when we visited, with some of the language being used in loud conversations by some of the patrons, not suitable for a family friendly establishment, or making for a comfortable experience. We had the meal deal with 2 courses for £15, which was very good value, and you got a huge amount of food. The lady who brought our food (I'm guessing the cook going by her apron), was lovely and extremely friendly. This is a huge place and probably extremely busy during the summer season, and one of the few places locally you can eat in November, when a lot of places close for the winter, and dog friendly- although you cannot go in the restaurant side with the dog but there are plenty of tables the bar side to sit at.There is a lot of history here and things to look at on the walls, which can make your visit interesting.

This is a difficult one. We enjoyed our visit. The food was good and there was plenty of it. Staff were friendly and helpful. I was disappointed there were no local ales on tap - or even any good ales (just the ubiquitous Coors Doombar). Food options on the menu are limited and basic. The pub was a bit cold and not very cosy (log burning stove needed in the main eating area). It's also more expensive than other pubs in the area for both food and drinks. I'd say it needs a few straightforward changes implementing by a knowledgeable owner or manager, then it could easily achieve five stars.
