When you arrive at your dentist for the majority who are already nurvous about receiving treatment and are greeted by a smug young dentist that basically informs you about how confused they are, even though they have been sent a clear referral letter from another dentist advising what is needed done which the front desk has already sent to her and hence why I am taking time off work to go to the denist for that very appointment. Yet the confusion remains. If you are confused and you are the dentist how do you think the client feels.I sat there on the chair and was informed immediately as if in school, about how very confused she was upon looking at my chart listing off missed appointments, teeth needing filled before I was even allowed to speak and the main concern seemed to be what may be needing done over the fact I was told I was coming in for an extraction.I had been previously been to my orthadontist and had x-rays taken and moulds for braces. So I then proceeded to book an appointment for extraction a final step I presumed.A referral letter was sent to Mccarters and they then made me an appointment which clearly stated extraction and they did not come back with any queries to the refferal letter so I presumed this was fine and we could go ahead. What was to be an extraction turned out to be a general appointment to be told off basicallyWhich was not what I came to the appointment for.Had there been confusion why was this not queried prior to me waiting weeks for an appointment plenty of time I would have thought to save any confusion. For someone who is not in the proffession the communcation process was appalling!.I would suggest a simple telephone call to request the xrays from the orthdontist for evaluation and then proceed to advise on amh treatment before extraction, would have saved my wasted journey. So naturally enough after months of back and forth to My denist and then finally getting an 'extraction' appointment with Mccarter I was astounded when the dentist said, you will need to get X-rays???All the while I was thinking I was in for an extraction having had xrays with the orthdontist. If you have a refferal letter from another dentist who specialises in braces would you not ask the client prior to the appointment if they had x-rays completed and if so to bring them with them. ( I am not a denist and I think this was a valid question)Having spoken to My dentist Portadown today they informed me that although Mccarters can ask for new xrays to be taken they should have followed up with the nature of the appointment and requested a copy of the xrays to evaluate prior and comunicated more effectiveltly instead of making the patient feel they where in the wrongNot to get lost in the finer details above, about what should have been advised and by whom. The main issue here was having already had a rough morning the attitude that the denist took was highly unprofessional and to then advise me that I should go to another denist turning patients away who voice feeling unhappy about the situation instead of reassuring them and looking for solutions to keep them a pateint within the practice is again not good practice. So my morning was being told that I could not be told anything until I paid up my £60.00 bill to then being short £60.00 and walking out with my teeth still intact.Having been on a few occassions to Mccarters I will not be back thanks to this Dentist advising me to go elsewhere. When I stated I felt uncomforatble. There was clearly not a communication module in her training and for the assistant to sit there also may I add with her hands in her head as if my queations where invalid and that she was fed up with me talking was utterly Disgraceful. It was like going to a denistry college with trainees and certainly not a reassuring enviroment. The regulation and quality improvement body has noted in a visit that Mccarters where compassionate so either they knew of the visit or did not get treated by the densit that I visited. Certainly no compassion on my visit.
