I arranged a phone appointment today to discuss some of my fever like symptoms with my doctor as I was not currently in Edinburgh and able to go into the surgery. After listening to my symptoms he simply said that he couldn't help me but that I might have leukemia or HIV!!! Very reassuring! Absolutely unprofessional, he made me feel like I was wasting his time and that I was keeping him from telling lots of other people that they had potentially life threatening illnesses without even taking the time to listen to what the patient was saying or asking any questions. I would not reccommend

Tried to register at Annandale Medical Practice as I have just moved to the catchment area. The receptionist looked at me like I was a piece of dirt, everyone turned around to stare at me as I spoke. No privacy at the reception. I haven’t been treated that rudely by a medical receptionist before. What if I was suffering from an acute mental health crisis? Send her on a customer service course!I was also told that I have to wait for three weeks until I can register!

I have been going to this practice for the past 4 years and more recently with my baby Daughter. Every doctor I have spoken to, or seen, has been attentive and excellent. I also find the receptionists very polite, even at 8am trying to get an appointment. My main reason for this rating is that I called NHS111 who instead of telling me to go to the childrens emergency ward they told me to see my GP. As soon as I spoke to the GP she asked me to bring my Daughter in to check on her, and told me to take her to A&E. She then spent 4 nights there on oxygen. Without this GP we may have been in a lot more trouble then we were and can’t thank them enough!

Negatives :--Terrible phone in system tied with a results first patient second approach with a 8am morning scramble on the phone with lengthy ques where the phone literally says over and over to go to the pharmacy instead first.-have constantly previously messed up prescriptions-ive had a terrible experience with a junior doctor there (now left) and a mental health nurse that for ages was the only one here I now at every appointment I have to clarify not to see them.-only open 9-5 weekdays and now I work 9-5 mon-fri, I simply cant access healthcare, for as a rule of thumb no appointments at weekends.overall I have to hope never to be ill or will have to go to A and E! like who in the right mind thinks that's a brilliant system I don't know!Single positive:-I do want to say here though that Dr Malone, and the younger mental health nurse and Ann at the desk are the trio of absolute gems here that honestly keep this place afloat!. They are always professional kind and take time to listen. They're wonderful and a example I wish all staff followed.

I am fairly new at this practice but I felt compelled to write a review because I have been so impressed. Their e-consult service is absolutely brilliant. Allows you to make contact at a time convenient to you, describe your issue / symptom etc and even upload photos if you need. I have always had a response the same day to this. One time I was booked into a physio appointment (only a couple of weeks to wait) and the physio was so helpful and reassuring, another time I was given a prescription. Saves time, effort and energy. All the doctors I have interacted with have been extremely helpful, kind and caring. The reception staff are always very pleasant to deal with. At a time when the NHS is under enormous pressure and in particular GP practices, I just wanted to say thank you.

Was reluctant to try and register with this surgery after reading the online reviews and after being turned away from two other surgeries for no being in the catchment area I felt I had no other choice. Arrived and there were two reception desks in each side of the corridor. On one side a receptionist was on the phone and on the other side two receptionists were operating a spreadsheet. From my experience with spreadsheets it doesn’t take two to operate them. One receptionist glanced at me, saw me waiting and ignored me anyway. I was finally seen by the reception on the phone. She told me I had to register via phone call, and that I could only call on Wednesday between 10-11am. I told explained that I had university on Wednesdays from 10-12 and I’m for £9000 a year I’m not prepared to skip/be late for a lecture to try and book and appointment to register at a GP practice. What happened with filling out a form to register? And the fact the only have a 1 hour slot one day a week is ridiculous. After explaining my situation the receptionist just shrugged her shoulders and offered no alternative solution.

As the other reviews say: a waste of time and an occasion to be treated badly. They give you a paper form to register as a new patient in the area, but when you come back after taking a day off to be able to hand the form in person as required (only from Tuesday to Thursday at certain hours...), they tell you they can't register you because they think" you're on the other side of the last road they accept within their boundaries. Not as if it were easy finding a practice in the area that accepts new patients! The receptionist was also rude and did not let me keep my form with personal info on

Edit: ever since my first review below ive only had good experience with the practice. Reception has been helpful and more accommodating with appointments. I've been feeling a lot more supported lately................Your doctor asks you to make a follow-up appointment for a current issue that she's helping with - next available appointment is 1-2 months away. What's the point. There's one really sweet receptionist, I always pray I don't have to interact with the other ones who are rude on the phone and ignore you when you're waiting inside the practice as they're usually chatting.

When you get to see a Doctor, they are generally very helpful and interested in their patients' welfare. I have also had nothing but positive experiences with the Practice Nurses.Unfortunately this is not reflected in the manner that reception staff and in particular the head receptionist treat patients (akin to something on the sole of your shoe).Registering and getting an appointment is (or was in pre-covid times) a nightmare and the system seems to be set up for the convenience of reception staff rather than patients. It is difficult to escape the feeling that its sole aim is to make it needless difficult to get an appointment and discourage people from seeing medical staff. The administrative side of the practice is so dispiriting, that it undoes a lot of the good work by medical staff. Nothing short of a complete reorganisation of that side of the practice and extensive customer services is needed.
