I am a regular attender of this fine establishment but today I was told off quite rudely of having my head over the counter. I was obviously wearing a mask and was taken aback by the attitude of the shop assistant Ella. I refuted her allegation and asked for an apology not forthcoming. In the midst of our conversation she gave me a lecture about the pandemic. This was just not good enough.I have not returned to the shop since the above incident as one never received an apology at the time and the girl is still working there. I felt it was better to go somewhere else for my bread and cakes. Their loss not mine.Yesterday, Sunday the 25 June I walked out after spending twenty minutes on my own waiting at the counter for somebody to serve me.There were three people, the owner, her son and a older lady who could have done so. I now know why the people of Downed did not visit the shop before it was closed as a loss making venture.

A rather cosy and quaint little cafe/bakehouse.Situated on the main hight Street of Chipping Sodbury, the bakehouse is perfectly placed at the top end on the hill.First thing I noticed was the outside seating. They have even thought about the old people by providing cosy blankets to keep them warm when sat outside.Inside, you are met with a good range of baked produce that smells and looks gorgeous. They also offer some decent coffee and at a sensible price. The baked offerings are all very tasty, (I've tried almost all of them including the veg options) and again, priced a little high, but you pay for quality. The staff are always very polite and welcoming chatter is ofter engaged in by all.If you're ever in the area I would advise having a stop for a cuppa and a bite.

If you are visiting Chipping Sodbury, you need to drop into The Cottage Bakery. They offer a wide range of bakery items, the most wonderful fresh bakes, from cakes to pasties. They have seats inside, outside, along with a takeaway window down the side which is great if you are on a bike or even a horse. The staff always make you feel so welcome and are all so wonderful.

We used to come here on a weekly basis to get our bread and pastries as it’s open early, meaning I can still make it to work. Today, knowing I’ve had a busy day ahead and needed to start work early I decided to head to the bakery just before 8. What a waste of time it was! 2 people serving, one making sandwiches, another making coffee, no one to deal with any other orders. After 15 minutes of waiting while staff make 2 sandwiches and 2 coffees we have decided to see if the bakery down the road was open - unfortunately it wasn’t, so we came back. Having been waiting for nearly 20 minutes at this point I have asked politely if we could get some bread just to be told to wait again. Another staff member was busy at the back making a sandwich and being on the phone. When it finally got to the point where we got some attention from a member of staff I asked for a sourdough which was right at the bottom of the boxes full of bread just to be told they have to unload them (looked fairly easy just to get it out). At this point it was already past 8 AM which meant I should be actually at work so gave up. Won’t be returning after this experience.
