Lovely place for something to eat. Had the platter to share. Choose any 3 dishes which will come with chips and salad. Really tasty. Followed this with a freshly made scone each.Very friendly staff and helpful.They were also doing theamed childrens parties.

Went here for afternoon tea a couple of weeks ago. Very nice and friendly staff. It was a very hot day and uncomfortably hot and sticky in there. They could do with some fans or aircon on hot days to make it more enjoyable and bearable for customers and staff.

Great food, welcoming staff. I'd recommend the tapas style option on the main food menu. The fish bits, grilled hallumi and brief wedges were immense! There's a few beers to choose from and they serve a good afternoon tea. You can sit in certain areas with the dog.

The young waitress was extremely helpful and patient. The food that we had was good. Chips weren't brilliant. Despite the menu have a large selection of desserts listed and gluten free as well, this became very limited when we ordered. No vanilla ice cream and two or three desserts unavailable. Plus despite the cheesecake saying it was gf on the menu this wasn't the case. This is why we gluten free people always check. It is not a lifestyle choice but serious! Overall it seems they are struggling as it is was very empty for a Saturdsy evening, which is a shame as it is a great venue and smashing staff. I hope they get more business.

Just celebrated my parents 60th wedding anniversary at the Essex and it was fantastic!Jo and her staff were very friendly and accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble and we all had a wonerful time. Highly recommended and well worth a visit.

Terrible experience we had a meal voucher bought for us for Christmas and what a disappointment this visit this place is. They are using cheap ingredients, (aldi camembert served in its cardboard box with cheap sliced brown bread for £12quid) nothing wrong with aldi food however the cheese in a soggy cardboard box served on a chopping board does not constitute fine dining! peroni lager at nearly £5 a pint which I took back as it was flat and so was the replacement so swapped for Pepsi at £3.40 a pint! Main courses of a burnt burger with bookers own brand cheap steak cut chips and very bland chicken and bacon in a bland sauce swimming in extra water from the badly drained cold green beans and peas.... I have to say if I did not have the gift voucher and paid over £50 for this experience 1star would not of covered it.

Never a bad experience. Food is lovely as are the staff. I can absolutely recommended their themed afternoon tea.

Dreadful. Waited 1 hour and 40 minutes for meal. Two people's meals in our party were inedible. Others diners also complaining of wait and inedible lamb main course. Some diners left before end of their meals. No complaints about young staff who were serving. All polite and tried to be helpful under very difficult circumstances.

Wonderful Sunday roast at the carvery. Choice of 3 meats and 7 veg. All beautifully cooked. Homemade Yorkshire's were large and delicious with the flavoursome gravy. One of the best roast dinners I've had since moving to the Island 6 months ago.The staff and owners were welcoming and attentive in an unobtrusive way. Wine was chilled to perfection. Would I recommend a visit - most definitely. Lovely friendly atmosphere in the Essex.
