I had a mix up of dates for my wife and myself through a booking website which I hadn't picked up on. Not a problem to Susie the owner as she juggled the rooms about to accommodate us, not only that she also gave us a free upgrade as it was a special occasion. I can't thank Susie enough for this as it could have turned out terrible. Needless to say our room was beautiful and clean with a lovely modern ensuite and a very, very comfortable bed, with an added bonus of a sea view. We also had a lovely meal that evening and every course was enjoyed thoroughly by me and my wife Karen. The food was beautifully presented and extremely tasty and most surprising it was not expensive and fantastic value for money. The staff were also on top form and very warming and friendly, nothing is a bother to them added with a friendly smile and a great attitude. We had a wonderful breakfast included with our room price and had more than enough to choose , from the continental breakfast through to the full scottish breakfast enjoyed by myself and a smaller breakfast for my wife. Cannot thank Susie and her wonderful staff enough for making it a memorable stay at The Balcomie Golf Hotel and we will definitely be back, we will also recommend to friends and family.Thank you Susie and her awesome staff.Gary & Karen xx.

Went here as a group of 10 for dinner, and both the food, and the staff were fantastic. I had my dog with me, and as soon as we were seated, a member of staff had come over with a bowl of water for Charlie, without me asking. Little things like that make such a difference in the experience.

My wife has a guide dog, and we were upgraded to a bigger room because of having the dog, so we thought that it was great of the hotel to do this. However, on our second night, we were told we could not sit in the main restaurant because of my wife's guide dog, when we pointed out that this was not correct the general manager said she was within her rights to refuse to let a guide dog sit within the main restaurant, due to the risk to people with allergies, the hotel did not want to be held responsible for any deaths due to an allergy, however no medical certification was shown to us to show evidence to back up her claim. We were then shown to a corner of the bar area, more like banished, where we're proceeded to have our meal, and for the second night running they did not have the starters that we wanted. The next morning at breakfast, the table that we had used on our first morning was only set for one person, so we had to sit in the bar area for breakfast. This is not the first time my wife has been discriminated against because of her requiring a guide dog.My wife had ordered egg benedic on the first morning at breakfast, and I ordered a full cooked breakfast. My wife's meal was very good, however my cooked breakfast was overdone the square sausage, black pudding and tattie scone were all overcooked, dry and tastless, so on the second day I took no chances and ordered the eggs.Needless to say, my wife's birthday weekend was not as pleasant as it should have been due to the general managers attitude towards my wife and her ignorance of the equalities act.My wife has reported the hotel to Guide Dogs with regard to this discrimination. We have also spoken to guide dog owning friends and Ivinghoe them that they would not be treated properly at this hotel. The hotel was refurbished recently and is still a work in progress, it took both of us to open the bathroom door, one from the outside one from the inside, when I reported the problem with the door jamming, I was told it would be sorted in the closed season, I'd have thought this would be something that would be fixed there and then, Needless to say we did not close the bathroom door after that.It goes without saying that we will not step foot in this hotel, but maybe that's what this general wants, for us to put out the word that people with guide dogs are not welcome and that we may be the last people with a guide dog to visit this place.

First time in Crail the Balcomie Hotel was great. The staff were excellent and nothing was too much trouble. The room was spotless clean and very comfortable. The breakfast was exceptional and the evening meals although limited as it is still off season we’re very tasty.Karen and her staff are to be commended. We will be back.

I stayed for one night at the hotel.First impressions were very good with a nice view and a spotlessly clean room with a lovely view. The down side was that the bathroom door didn’t fully open because of the bed and the shower door didn’t fully open because of the wash hand basin. The breakfast was extremely poor with no fresh fruit or yoghurt and when I asked for a pot of tea I was directed to a table where there were teabags and a flask of hot water. On our table we had toast but no marmalade or jams and the butter was definitely portion controlled. My room was £135 per night and this was extremely very poor value.Sorry but our party of golfers won’t be back.
