Room clean and modern but we were constantly woken through the night by people walking past our room and you could hear everything. The doors into rooms banged shut and did not have any soft closers on them. This again woke us up at night and very early morning. We were unable to eat at the restaurant as it was too busy. Not an enjoyable evening with very little sleep. Would not stay again

Another nice stay here. The room was very comfortable (although there were a couple of maintenance issues needing attention). The restaurant has a very high standard, with a good range of dishes and a nice wine selection. The staff are generally very helpful and cheerful. Overall, very good value and happy to return soon.

Mercure hotel is a well presented newly refurbished boutique hotel on the outskirts of Dumfries. The staff are very pleasant and helpful, food is great and it has a lovely ambience. I was there on business and stayed over. The room itself was a great size, nicely presented and clean. Overall I would highly recommend whether for business or a weekend break.

This hotel is on the final run of a refurbishment and we booked some time ago wondering whether we would be either walking into a building site or if we would be reaping the benefits of new investment. Well it was definitely the latter. The staff were awesome, super friendly and even all the younger staff seemed really well trained. Room was great, just made for a really good stay. Can't praise the staff enough.

I stayed here for two nights whilst travelling with work for a business meeting in Dumfries. I stayed in a standard double room, which was spotlessly clean, modern and a good size to be able to work and relax in. I had a great night's sleep as the bed was very comfortable and the area the hotel is located in is very quiet. I ate in the restaurant for breakfast and dinner and the food was lovely and hot on both occasions. The staff are very friendly, helpful and welcoming. I would happily stay here again for business or bring my family on a leisure trip.

Comfortable bed with a nice large TV although the room was quite compact with little room for storage. The staff were excellent and meals were good. You need a car to get into town.

We booked a so called Privilege room (105). The room had a view of the dustbins and stank of cooking smells presumably because it was located over the kitchen. Worse than that it was extremely hot (despite the cool ambient temperature outside) and the single window would only open a few inches. Both my wife and I had trouble sleeping because of the heat and to make that worse somebody started slamming doors below around midnight presumably when the kitchen was being closed for the night. The food in the restaurant was OK'ish but the service was variable to say the least. How the hotel qualifies for 4 stars is beyond me

lovely! the 19th century explorer theme throughout the hotel is exactly to my taste. Rooms are well designed and comfortable. rich breakfast. only negative at least for me was the location: the city center of Dumfries is pretty far away, so you're basically required to go by car or take a taxi.

I highly recommend a stay at this smart hotel if you can! I believe there's a golfing range close by.The main reason I'm so impressed (and which led to me to leave a review - the moment I had chance to do so), was actually the food. Got to be said. It's never a deal breaker, but it CAN be a definite accolade maker. As we discovered. We had an overnight stay last night (13th June 2023) to attend a family funeral next day, and decided to book a table for dinner when we got there.I had trouble choosing what to eat as they'd recently expanded the menu but I went for the trio of melon starter, with a blackcurrant sorbet that. was. to. die. for! My other half ordered Haggis bon bons - I was secretly proud of him for respectfully ordering a Scottish dish. He loved that. Then he had a big juicy beefburger (amazing coleslaw btw), his favourite thing in the world.. while I had mine - Salmon fillet in dill sauce. Wow, our little bellies were just singing. It was divine. Talk about pleasantly surprised. I'm normally a tad underwhelmed with hotel food. Call me picky, but I've evolved low expectations over the years and I'm never a moaner about these things. Maybe an eye-roller.. but I always think to myself: I've not paid 'luxury' hotel prices, this is what I've paid for. The Mercure in Dumfries, however, manages to deliver the ideal. It is very reasonably priced, from the drinks at the bar, the rooms, to the catering. I kept expecting to be ripped off hotel-style but it didn't happen. And I can be very frugal (tight), only with myself I hasten to add!Next morning, we had full buffet breakfasts, and again not just good, but quite literally the best we've (I've) experienced in a hotel like this. I mean the sausages were simply outstanding I'm not joking. And I told them so! It was all very well organised and catered for.Anyway, apart from the grub, the staff are wonderful, warm, welcoming and can't do enough to help. It was such a pleasure to meet them. We felt wanted. I was sorry it was under such circumstances for us, as they'd gleefully enquired about our reason for staying. Bless them. It's not easy to know what to say about these things and we didn't want to make anyone feel awkward. The hotel itself is a really cool mixture of modern fixtures and furnture blended with original fireplaces and quirky nooks. The public loo had things like deodorant and lady items on standby for anyone that may have needed them. The whole place was smart, clean, spacious and interesting. The surrounding area is deadly quiet. Being a city person.. I'm not too used to that. It was a real treat. The room was really great too. Comfortable big bed, black out curtains, a decent shower, a mirror in the bathroom with ring light (even made me feel good about myself haha), everything you'd expect like a kettle, big tv etc but more.. little touches like a box of tissues, a 'designer' water cannister, the bedside low lights with the brighter reading spotlights if required.. it was all so nicely thought out.The parking is plentiful there too.The only caution, a little tiny tip for visitors that I'd like to pass on, is that the road sign isn't very big when you arrive. It's off quite a speedy country lane and if you've not been before it's a bit tricky to spot. It's a tiny turn off that opens up quite surprisingly when you get to the entrance.Next time we visit Dumfries, it's a no-brainer where we will want to stay. We had an excellent experience that we weren't expecting, but one that we most definitely appreciated. All thanks to the great people that work (hard) and run this place beautifully. The staff are always the heart and soul of a place and if that's gotten right, well.. as a hospitality service, you've struck gold haven't you? They do the Mercure name proud here.
