3-12-23 Festive weekend in Chester, little disappointed with parking, but excellent location across the road from the Train Station & short walk to the City Centre.Traditional style with strong local historical features. Big bathroom with waterfall shower & huge bath. Bed very comfortable.

Visited for Afternoon Tea with some family. We arrived a little early but were sat and served quickly. Staff very attentive and friendly too, we were entertained by our server (can't remember his name though, curly hair). Anyway, he was attentive, brought extra drinks and checked all was OK.Afternoon tea was lovely, nice open top sandwich, with a few different toppings. The sweet treats were delicious, plenty of those! And the fizz was tasty too. Can't comment on bedrooms but the bits we saw of the hotel were nice.Excellent location, right over the road from the station and only a short walk to the main shops.

Lovely old fashioned hotel with lots of history. Really nicely furnished and rooms are warm and atmospheric as is the whole hotel. It's old so don't expect pristine paintwork and window frames but they are keeping it well maintained with all the modern requirements. Carpets are all fresh and clean with no worn areas which is often an indication of getting shabby. Staff helpful and friendly if a bit stretched. Nice buffet breakfast and meal we had at the hotel (included) was good. Location is great next to the railway station and a 10 minute walk into the centre of Chester. We really enjoyed our stay and it's nice to stay in a proper" hotel not a travel lodge for a treat. Recommend and would use again"

Hotel looked fab.Room OK, but the bathroom is a bit cramped compared to the large room. When you sit on the toilet, it was close to the wall toilet paper holder in the wrong place and poked you in your arm.Just a few tweets and could be very much improved.High ceiling in bedroom with a dusty light fitting. Apart from that a clean a OK room.

Overnight stay for two in one of their upgraded rooms. Room very large clean and warm. Excellent shower controls! Complementary chocolate bars and posh crisps! Buffet breakfast, but all food of high quality and well cooked - 10/10 for the food. Staff very friendly and helpful. Situated across the road from the main station. Public sitting rooms are quite historic and very high ceilings, I think chairs and tables need a refresh, but they are comfortable. Full of historical art. Main staircase would be suited to large stately home.

Booked for a Christmas do for work. The room we where given was a mess and extremely small for the price we paid. A number of our colleagues where split across the building despite the booking being made at the same time. The meal was poor in quality and the refreshments and bar even more so disappointing. The staff where lovely and nice but it put a damper on things due to the state of the meal and our room so wouldn't recommend for the price.

A beautiful hotel! Our room was lovely and comfortable, with complimentary crisps, chocolate, bottled water and tea/coffee waiting. Plenty of towels and a bathrobe each, and very effective heating. Our 3 course dinner was delicious, even though some of the menu options had run out. The breakfast is amazing - so much choice and caters for all diets. The one negative was that parking isn't free, and cost £12 for 24 hours. But still great value and a fantastic hotel break.

Good location opposite the railway station. Grand old appearance. Staff very good. Breakfast also very good, buffet style, if included in your booking, expensive if not. Rooms, we can only comment on room 90 in the old part of the hotel on the ground floor. Ground floor was a bonus, really high ceiling, very ornate but in serious need of refurbishment, damaged skirting & doorframe, inserts missing on shower taps, bathroom door sticking, quilt too small for quilt cover, although huge bed. Windows to busy street single glazed, very wet and mouldy/dirty, probably have to keep single glazeddue to being listed we guess. On the plus side, lighting was good and unusually for a hotel room, more electric sockets than you could ever need, one each side of the bed too.Walking to Chester centre would take 20 to 30 minutes depending how fast you walked.Bus stop outside with busses taking you into the heart of Chester, get off at the next stop after the bus interchange. Railway station literally opposite is really good, we went to Manchester Piccadilly, one & a half hour journey with advanced returns for £7.50 each. We were in Chester & a few other places for Christmas shopping and markets, which were very good. There is a modern side to the hotel which we are guessing would not be in need of the same refurbishment, but as we didn't see, can't comment.Certainly enjoyed the hotel in general, just not our particular room.

We were here for our staff party. Food was lukewarm, service was so so. The worst thing was, the bar shut without calling last orders. We were all still at the bar areas and some were waiting to be serve. The staff just stop serving and ignoring all of us and start closing the bar. The manager said it was a standard that they never call last orders at parties. That must be a joke, I never been to places/parties that do not call last orders. I worked in hospitality as bar manager in events and banquets and I cannot believed that a bar never call for last orders.
