Burgh Island Hotel
Have stayed at the hotel five times over the past decade or so, and always enjoyed the experience, which is unique and very special. There were nice friendly people to drive you and your luggage across to the island. Since my last stay, there seem to be a lot of new staff, some who were not perhaps as experienced as they might be - our lunch order wasn't what we'd asked for although what we were given was nice anyway. We had dinner in the main dining room, a great experience with live music and everyone in dinner suits. We'd booked for 6.30 but didn't get invited to our table until 7.45 and our starters didn't arrive until well after 8.00. Despite the late start, the food was excellent.Of course, the hotel is famous for its Agatha Christie connection, as she based two of her novels, Evil Under the Sun, and And Then There Were None, on Burgh Island. In Evil Under the Sun, a particularly awful hotel guest is murdered. So it was a delight when we were treated to a pair of wonderfully obnoxious guests - they announced to anyone who'd listen that they were on their anniversary and intended to celebrate" every night. It was hilarious to see their disgust when they were offered water with their meal. I don't think I saw them sober the whole time we were there

Our stay was utter bliss and magical. I felt like I was on cloud nine throughout my stay, everything was perfect, the staff, scenery, ambiance, food and hotel! We had wonderful weather, the sea was crystal clear and I couldn't take my eyes off the scenery from all the fantastic vantage points on the island and hotel. All the staff we met delivered excellent service, from the sea tractor drivers, to Simon the concierge, to the bar staff, housekeeping staff, restaurant staff (Martina) & reception staff. Everyone was so friendly and couldn't do enough to make our stay special (unfortunately I could not remember the names of everyone we were served by/met) We were made to feel truly valued and cared for.We dressed to the nines for our meal in the grand ballroom and were glad we made the effort, it only added to the experience. Breakfast in the Nettlefold provided a wide variety of options and delicious, of course. We treated ourselves to afternoon tea, which again, did not disappoint. The mermaid pool is also a must, a very peaceful area to relax, and definitely warmer than the sea!

Fabulous staff.Great setting.Dramatic weather in some way enhanced it.Given 5 stars (4 wouldn't be enough), staff definitely deserve 5+However, 4.5 is more realistic - for the price the following were not expected ...Skew-wiff toilet seats in ladies (which only needed adjusting by screwing them properly)Broken window catches, meaning windows couldn't be opened in suite.Broken top window in bathroom.Chocolate one night, not the second night.Change of towels but no hoovering of floor. All in all, a marvellous stay but a little more attention to detail needed, perhaps

A cautionary tail to ensure you have COVID cancellation insurance.I cancelled our booking at the hotel five days prior to check in due to contracting COVID.The hotel reception contacted me stating that as the cancellation was less than seven days prior to check in, there was a full charge and no refund of any amount, of the not insubstantial amount paid for the room we had booked. To compound the lack of service, on the day we were due to check in, a telephone call was received from the hotel asking if we had been delayed on our journey down. I had to explain the booking had been cancelled five days previously due to contracting COVID, something which the hotel had acknowledged. So, what should have been a unique experience, ended up as an expensive non event.

Utterly outstanding hotel. We have just spent the August bank holiday in the Tony and B suite and simply cannot fault the place. The staff are exceptionally attentive, The suite was gorgeous, the food and cocktails were incredible. Nothing was too much trouble for anyone and the 1920s/30s Art Deco vibe is 2nd to none. Some of the decor is slightly tired but this just adds even more to the character. You truly feel like you have been transported back in time 100 years. We are already planning our next visit. Highly recommended.

We came here for afternoon tea for my sisters birthday. Lovely setting and friendly staff. Have booked again. I know it's a bit more expensive than some cream teas, but the setting and ambience make it worthwhile. I also stayed here a few years ago and would highly recommend it.

We went here for my wife's 40th birthday and I can safely say it was the best holiday we have ever had. From arrival to departure the whole experience was fantastic. The food was amazing and the service from all the staff was outstanding. I would highly recommend a stay here to anyone even just for one night. A big thank you to everyone involved you are all super stars.

This place is just so special. Sadly we only stayed one night. It should be a hotel everybody experiences at least once. The service food and ambience is fantastic. I will save up and be back just as soon as I can. Burgh island is magical and soothing at the same time.

Came for lunch to see if it met our expectations - the usual Poirot location etc. hoping to stay some time soon. Being also avid art deco collectors we feared it may be a little less spectacular but it was fabulous. OK not fully polished but still gorgeous. The location actually surprised us - odd I know but we weren’t expecting it to be quite so lovelyThe hotel actually asked us to bring our reservation forward as the day we booked, the sea tractor couldn’t be used due to bad weather. Turned out to be great as they picked us up from the car park, with a really nice informative driver. Great start. And the weather really was crazy - blazing sun, then torrents of wind and rain - which made being on the island that bit more specialWe were warmly welcomed into the bar by the manager/concierge and superbly looked after for pre-lunch drinks by a totally delightful bartender (apologies for not remembering her name), who then took us into the Nettlefold restaurant and looked after us there along with a nice waitress. As we could only have lunch, I can’t speak for the full on dining experience but it was lovely - great cocktails and champagne too. What a great room too - complete with eccentric ship’s cabin at one end combined with fab deco. After exploring more of the hotel, we were given a warm farewell and another transfer back to the land-side car park. What a lovely one off experience - we’ll definitely be back to stay!
