Great history, decent atmosphere, but everything this pub once stood for has completely changed. Drinks became extortionate and more aimed towards the hipsters not the locals, helping support gentrification. Bouncers here are super aggressive for no reasons. Gigs use to cost 3£ but now cost around 30£+ even though its no one worth seeing. Dont bother coming here, go to a spoonsEDIT: I can have multiple friends confirm that we had to pay 2 pounds for entry a few years ago.

This is a venue that we have visited several times. The place is vast and bustling. The stage and hall are so compact, it feels your at a house party. The performance is so close you can touch the act with your hands. The music has always been brilliant. I love the place.

Don’t think the floors have ever been cleaned, too sticky to move. Poorly laid out gaff, went for sound system and was the complete wrong crowd. Was definitely overpacked. Guess if you’re local and drink it’s probably a motive, but if you’re coming for music would definitely reconsider.

Wouldn’t go back. Asked the staff endlessly what time the act was on and told 21.30. We waited until 12AM! My mate left after waiting having to listen to a terrible DJ playing ‘Hip Hop’ which was more 2000s pop. Once the act came on, a fight broke out, so annoying.. the rest of us left at barely 1am.Literally, the worst gig I’ve been to.

This place used to be great, now its worse than terrible! Music used be brilliant! The place to go! Now its mediocre with the odd act worth seeing and even then the glaring lights on the dance floor and poor sound makes it hardly worth bothering. The dance floor used to be nicely lit and you were surrounded by good quality and loud sound. You could get lost in the music and it was fun! Now it's blindingly bright and boringly quiet! I'd be happy to pay the high entrance fees for a good venue but sadly it isn't anymore. This place could do with a change of management. Until then I'll be going elsewhere.

So impressed! Very clean, and quiet. Friendly staff and guests. Free ear plugs, tea/coffee & breakfast. Probably the best hostel I've stayed in, I'd definitely come back. Thank you.

Best two nights of my euro trip! Ended it with live band big band of boom which made the night magical! Building is so historic and mates there just met the energy of the sociable gathering space!

Been there last night. The gig and dj set were great! But oh my days...the crowds full of youngish stack up people (not all ofc - but enough to make me notice) feeling they were in the poshest club of London, not to mention everybody was on another world. Dont mind a bit of high but on a Danamyte night?! Nothing to do with that music culture. And don't even get me started witht the baristas behind the bar, miserable! Acting like you were disrespecting them when ordering. This place used to be an amazing place where you were gurantee fun 100% with his undergruond culture. Baristas behind the bar were proud to work at Hootananny and were having fun. I appreciate they swapped the ladies with the man's toilette..that's about it. Not going back.

Staff were friendly and helpful, location is great too, ten minutes from the tube and across the road from a big Sainsbury's if you need food. But it's a bit hard to access if you don't have keys, there might not be anyone to let you in, and bouncers might take issue with you if you try to get in via the pub during a gig. If you have luggage you might struggle with the stairs. Temperature was either freezing cold or really hot at night, not sure why. The noise levels are as you'd expect being on top of a live music venue - I imagine staying on the top floor is a bit better than the middle floor. The people were really fun though.

Male's bathroom only has one stall with a door, privacy isn't a thing over there. If you like quiet places, this is not your thing, there's a bar downstairs, music plays until 2 or 3 am. Staff is very kind and helpful though
