Silchester Manor Day Nursery

This is our second nursery, so we have something to compare with now. We absolutely adore this place, our little girl is happy there and looked after very well by staff and amazing manager Samina. They do lots of development games and support child needs and interests.

Don’t care about your child- just see you as a number. Much better nurseries around!

I applied to a nursery for my soon to be 10-month-old son. In receipt of my interest, I was contacted, and an appointment was made for us to view the nursery. We were taken around and welcomed by staff. I was assured that I would be contacted to arrange a settling in session. All appeared well. As I was leaving, I informed the supervisor that my son had been diagnosed with down syndrome with no medical conditions.The following day I was contacted by email to attend a settling in session. When I arrived, I was confronted by the manager (Samina) and supervisor who ushered me into a room. The manager started to explain that her sister had a child with down syndrome also, so in one sense she can symphonize with me. Unbeknown to me at the time I wasn't sure where this conversation was going. I continued I listen. The manager expressed how she already had two children with special needs attending her nursery on a full-time basis, and how the parents expected her to take care of the children with no consideration towards the difficulties she has with recruiting staff. Throughout this 'meeting' the supervisor was present to where he sat blank faced. I continued to stay calm whilst expressing my contrasting views whilst honestly, inside, I felt as though I was being interrogated.She continued to state that I can stay and play with my child in the baby room. This I did. The staff were lovely, and my son was interacting well with the members.After staying for an hour, I left the nursery with the manager piercing from behind her computer screen stating they would be in touch. I strapped the baby into the car and drove away. Tears rolled down my face as I reflected on the experience. I felt so defeated and almost manipulated.6 weeks has passed, and we have received no email, no phone call, absolutely no contact at all.It has taken me weeks to conceptualise this experience. Although I felt confused, angry, sad, and useless at the time, I am grateful that my precious baby is not attending this nursery. It is so patronising to have someone use your situation to try to connect with you, to then use the information against you. I would have respected her more if she remained upfront rather than have us go through the rigmarole of being a part of her puppet show.

Great facilities and friendly staff. They made the settling period for my 10 months old baby really easy -specially coming from a different country-.Plenty of games and activities to keep the kids entertained. Happy baby happy parents!
