I was contacted by the Oxford branch of Hays Recruitment after I had uploaded my CV to Reed. They said I seemed like a good fit for one or two positions they had and described the job duties to me. I was interested in one of the positions, so I set up an appointment to meet with the recruiter so that they could sign me up with the agency and put me forward for the position. Here is where things went downhill. I met with a girl named Jessica Cross. When asked what my notice period was for my current temporary job, I replied with one week. She proceeded to tell me that there were 30-40 other people with the agency just like me looking for the same type of admin work that I was seeking and they were available immediately so I would not be considered before them by an employer. She then repeatedly asked me about my American high school education (college for the UK) despite me telling her it was not relevant considering I had a degree from university and 2+ years of work experience. She asked me what type of compensation I’d like to receive and then told me that I wouldn’t be able to get anything more than 9/hour. I walked out extremely upset but not upset enough to write this review just yet.The calls I have had from Hays have been sporadic and honestly leave me a little angry every time. I have been contacted by three or four different people who have been pretty similar in the fact that they do not listen to anything that I say. I have been asked over 10 times if I possess an automobile and what type of work I am looking for and which areas I am willing to commute to which I have responded to every time. They have actually never called me with an actual job opportunity ever since that first phone call. They have only asked me questions that they definitely should have the answers to written down somewhere at this point. I was called and asked if I was still interested in being a legal secretary and when I responded yes, the recruiter said she had something but she would wait to hear back about another candidate she had put forward and when she received that feedback, she would decide whether she wanted to put me forward. I never heard from this woman about this job again. So, as far as I know, I have actually never been put forward for any job.Now we come to why I am writing this review. I have a voicemail on my phone right now asking how my interview went that a different and INFINITELY BETTER agency managed to get for me. That’s not strange or infuriating at all. What is crazy is that they asked how my interview at the publishing company that is one of only two jobs (and also the only UK job) listed on my CV went that ended in June. This just completely confirmed to me that they do not listen and do not care. They are essentially just spam to me now and I really would advise not to get involved with them. I have dealt with two other agencies (both got me interviews and one actually managed to get me a job) so I know that they are not all like this. I’m pretty sure they just need to appear to be making phone calls so they occasionally call me to waste my time. Well Hays, I now have as little interest in working with you as you do with me.

I have registered twice with this particular branch. Once for Marketing and Once for Admin Support. Both Beth and Harvey have left a lasting impression. They always call back when they say they will, they check in with me for progress and they are both very friendly and professional individuals.Bethany found me a temp-permanent role which fitted me perfectly. It showed that she really listened to my needs at the interview and she knew her clients really well so I was matched well for the interview. She was extremely organised and talked me through the brief with detail. It makes a very big difference to your interview process when you feel you already know their client and their needs.Thank you for a seamless job search.Ava

Horrible experience. Found me a temp job which didn't last long due to what i believe was miscommunication. When the lady told me she had the audaciy to ask me Is that okay?" Of course it's NOT OKAY TO LOSE YOUR JOB. And before that she told me "Sorry i have kids and i haven't been in the office" AND I DON'T HAVE A FAMILY OR EXPENSES THAT I NEED TO COVER?? After that i told them i will still need a job obviously

A friendly and helpful recruiter (and no: I don't work for them!)Have dealt with Hays several times and have always found that even the senior consultants are friendly and non-judgemental.As yet have not found a role with them, but they have arranged copious interviews when I've needed them and they gave honest and encouraging feedback for all the ones I've done.

They really are timewasters, they make the internal selection processes excessively long, with up to 4-5 interviews, many of them almost the same, and then they reject you in the last one. People have to miss vacations to meet with them countless times. Then the resolution is that they need more experience (for a trainee role with a salary of £20k). they are a joke.

I've worked for Hays many times mainly for Thomas Warner. He is always very helpful and correct. Never had any problems with them. I highly recommend them and hoping to work through them again.

Very unprofessional and disappointing service. This agency does not pay on time and takes a month for a complaint to be resolved. Pays less hourly rate in comparison to other local recruitment agencies for similar roles. Would not recommend.
