Market Cross
Wonderful festive meal at the market cross. Food portions very good and flavoursome.Table decorated lovely for the festive season.Only improvement would be to offer drinks at the tables rather then having to go up to the bar, but this was due to low staffing so understandable, so still given full rating as the staff on hand were all very good.

The staff were lovely and friendly but when it came to the carvery there was no one there staffing it for ages and it made us feel awkward to go up and get the food because we didn’t know how it worked as first time visitors. It took us an hour to finally get food and we only did because someone else went up and they only went out because the staff member came out from the back to change an item. They changed a few bits in the process of the day but when we got back to the table most of it was cold/lukewarm. You could tell it had been sitting there a while. Even if we had got it when we first got there it would have been the same temperature. The only thing that was warm was the peas and the gravy. Don’t get me wrong the food was lovely but would have liked it at a better temperature. It was lovely that they had such good options for vegan desserts. As a dairy free person I often find myself skipping dessert because of the lack of options for me. They had however about three options and all of them very different. Lovely too. The pudding was the best bit. The cold food may have just been that we came at a slower time because it really wasn’t very busy. We will be coming back to give it another go at a busier time to see if that changes our opinion. Plus the preset menu looked amazing so we’d like to try that too!

We were a large group, 30 of us and I was worried about how Market Cross was going to cope, but I needn't have worried. We had plenty of room to sit and the carvery was delicious. The staff did seem quite stressed at some points though and one family member had to wait too long for their burger and was very disappointed at the meagre portion of nachos for £10.All in all though, we had a good experience overall and would recommend to others for large family events.

Welcomed by very friendly staff who obviously enjoy their work.Quiet Monday night so we had to go in search of someone to carve our meat but once found, our plates were full including the biggest Yorkshire pudding I had ever seen. Great value. Very enjoyable

I went with my elderly mother in law and husband and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. The service was second to none specially from Lyn who served us, she was very attentive and helpful.Food was lovely. My husband had the burger and MIL had the steak pie and I had jacket potatoe. Thank you very much. We'll see you again soon

Kate the new manager was very friendly, pleasant over and above service from her.Had to wait a bit for food from the kitchen , NO pouched egg just fried.Busier as getting nearer to Christmas.I think another person behind the bar or in the kitchen may of helped smooth the waiting time.Carvery sadly did not give much meat, to a friends dish, compared to other Carvery’s I’ve visited??Over all food was good value for money, what I had. Gammon, egg, pineapple, tomatoes, peas and thick chips.Sadly the female toilets need a thorough cleaning/modernising. Let the premises down.Would visit again in the Hope a few changes are made.

We went for a work Christmas meal when it first opened and haven’t returned since as we weren’t impressed. HOWEVER, we decided last minute to give it a go for a Sunday carvery and were very impressed. It was a lovely Sunday dinner -hot and plenty of veg in particular. Generous portion even for a ‘regular’. We’ll definitely be back!

After sitting down to start our roast dinner our little girl was sick so we had to leave, having not had more than 3 mouthfuls! I called up later in the evening asking if we could get a free carvery for my husband as his missed his father's day roast. Dan told me to pop in and gave me a full refund and also sent me away with 2 takeaway roasts with a tub of gravy! Brilliant food with even better service! Thank you!

Was greeted and shown where our group was sitting. Really friendly staff and great atmosphere. Originally there should have been a few more of us but they were not able to make it. The staff were very accommodating. Food was great as always. Festive menu, starter, main and pudding. We booked last minute for our works Christmas do so was really glad we could be fitted In. Nothing was to much. Table decorations all dolled up for Christmas with crackers. Also was busy but quite enough that we didn’t have to shout over others to be heard. Will definitely be recommending more works dos at the market cross!!
