St Albans Recycling Centre

I was helped by a very considerate member of staff today whilst disposing of an old fridge at Ronson Way depot. I was pleased by how easy my visit was.

Well run, you might have to wait your turn, but generally you don’t have to wait for long.

Easy access, easy parking, well-signposted recycling skips, and lots of recycling types but the yard is not open every day, so check before you set off.

Thank you so much to the lovely Derek and Matt for helping me with my recycling on what was an absolutely awful day. The rain was hammering down and it was very cold and windy, yet they were outside assisting everyone with big smiles, patience and real enthusiasm. The 3 of us had a lovely chat and they genuinely brightened my day! Derek is an absolute gentleman and a real asset as the manager. I have often been impressed by the guys working at the centre, but never thought of writing to compliment them on their excellent work and great attitudes until now. They deserve all the praise and credit they get. Thank you gents!

Regular visitor - always well run. Have to queue sometimes but the live webcam helps. I use the free van permit (12 free visits in 12 months) which is great.

Worst experience ever. I cleaned my garden yesterday and it turned out that the amount of the garden waste was much more than I could fit in my personal car. I called the council and they issued a van permit for me. I asked a friend of mine to lend me his van to do the job and headed to the St Albans Recycle centre as I reside in St Albans and that’s the closest site to my place.When I arrived there, I approached a member of the staff who checked my permit and the amount of the green waste and went to talk to, apparently, the site manager, who refused to take the water without stating the reason. He was extremely rude and totally unprofessional. Someone from the staff said it was because I brought the waste in a commercial vehicle. I brought it in a van because it didn’t fit in my car. Please bear in mind that I had a Van permit!This amount of waste was insignificant. It could easily fit in a small van. Nonetheless, these people didn’t even bother to explain why I was refused. I had to drive 17 miles north to the Ware recycling centre where I ,luckily, was met by decent people who treated me with respect.If you have the chance, try other recycling sites and avoid these miserable people from St Albans recycling centre. They shouldn’t be allowed to work with the public. I’ll report them to the council.The public services’ users shouldn’t be treated as I was yesterday!

Lovely lovely people, really kind. All of the staffs have the great work ethics and is it the most organised recycling centre I've ever been.

I’m reviewing bec it seems the site has undergone a revamp. And maybe a re staff as well - who were super helpful.The flow is so much better. No more struggling up steps with wood or large bits of cardboard. Was easy and efficient to dispose of stuff. Good management.

Fantastic customer service. Derek went above and beyond to help me reclaim a textile bag which I had thrown into recycling by mistake. A true gent.
