The Maynard

Found this gem after a few Google searches and glad to say we were not disappointed at all! We did not stay in the hotel but went to The Maynard for an evening celebratory meal that tasted incredible and was well cooked. Mains were the Pork dish and Sirloin steak, cooked to perfection with lovely accompaniments. We were served by the lovely Kezia who was friendly, personable and provided a great table service during our meal.The restaurant had low ambient lighting, with gentle music and the light chatter of dining guests. It was a great environment, with beautifully set tables and comfortable seating. We enjoyed our meal so much that we are planning to return in the next couple of days, and looking at a potential long weekend stay at the hotel in the future. The on-shift manager was wonderful and able to accommodate our request to re-book for another meal during our stay in the Peak District. Highly recommend and surprised the place doesn't have a Micheline star for it's food!

We have been to the Maynard for several different reasons and events since it re-opened and we have always been very satisfied with everything. This is the second year we have been for a pre Christmas night out and stayed over and again, we thoroughly enjoyed it. However, having looked at the menu prior to going and looking forward to the choices we had made, it was very disappointing when we were told that one of the starters we wanted wasn't available and the Three Pies main course, which two of our party had chosen, wasn't available either. We appreciate the Pies are a very popular choice and it is a busy time of the year, so can I suggest you make more pies please!!! We still highly recommend a visit to the Maynard though and we will be going back

We had our wedding at The Maynard, after our original planner left Lisa stepped in, and inspired confidence in us. Lisa is an incredible planner, goes above and beyond during planning and throughout the wedding day making sure everything is just to our liking. Nothing was too much of a bother for adjusting even last minute guests.The food was incredible and we would love to thank the chef for the menus and quality of food delivered to us.We would also like to thank all the other staff involved from servers to bar staff and receptionists, you made the whole experience wonderful and we couldn't have had a wonderful day without all your efforts.Ben and Emily

You’re really made welcome from start to finish. We’d been for a long country walk and landed in the bar at lunchtime. We had a starter each as a light lunch with a few glasses of wine. We checked into our room and were delighted to see the quality of the furnishings. Room 11. Beautiful. Great shower and a clean comfy bed. Very adequate wardrobe space and a nice touch to have 2 dressing gowns. Good tea/coffee facilities and enough milk (at last a nice surprise as you usually never have enough). Meal in the restaurant was superb - highly recommend the ravioli. Checkout was 11am so plenty of time for a full English breakfast. Mmmm. Service with a smile all the way. Well done and thank you

WEDDING OF THE YEAR. We cannot thank The Maynard and all of the staff associated with our fantastic wedding enough. From the moment we stepped into the building the evening before, throughout the day and into checking out, Lisa and Charlotte couldn't do enough for us. We were absolutely blown away by the attention to detail, the care taken over our guests and the way the team brought our wedding to life. From our dreams to reality, quite literally. If you are thinking of getting married here, DO IT. The rooms and food are absolutely stunning too. Our favourite hotel in the world - thank you, Team Maynard!

I am a wedding florist and absolutely love working at The Maynard Arms dressing their gorgeous venue with flowers.The team are always so welcoming, great to work with and super professional. I often stay for the turn around between ceremony and reception…check that flowers are on the tables, the ceremony piece is in the right place for the top table etc - to be honest I haven’t really needed to because the team are so ‘on it’ I’d trust them to add the vavavoom to the table centres without me. Such is their care. .As I said - they are GREAT!!!

One of the most unique experiences we have had in our broad history of travelling around the world.The place is literally 10 minutes away from Sheffield but yet in a beautiful country location in the Peak District.Every single detail in the hotel: rooms, decoration, food, classic atmosphere, personnel attention, etc is so special.If you want to taste classic northern England countryside, this is the place.We will come back.Thanks for this beautiful place and experience.

Where to start our son and now lovely daughter in law had there wedding here on Monday .From arriving to set up , my nerves were put at ease as it was clear everything was under control , nothing was to much trouble and they attended to last minute changes with no bother.The day itself ran smoothly due to good organisation, while ensuring throughout the wedding party were attended to and made to feel special.The food was amazing both the wedding breakfast and the evening food . Even though still full up the evening food was to good to turn down.The bedrooms were amazing , really comfy , clean and modern .Breakfast was good the next day and still felt looked after , with everything packed up from the day before to take home.Highly recommended a wedding here and thank you to all the staff . X

Very nice hotel/pub/restaurant. We stated in O’Reilly, a room with a renovated and fresh bathroom. Breakfast was a bit too simple, we expected more to be honest. We did not go for the English so perhaps that might have been the better option. Nice walks nearby, accessible from the hotel. I would stay here to explore the Peak District by car and also on foot. Have dinner in the pub or restaurant, you will be satisfied. Note: there is no elevator.
