Really great experience of Alex & Co (formerly Home & Abroad) from start to finish. Always dealt with issues quickly, were pleasant to deal with and kept the property well managed throughout our tenancy. Joanna was excellent as were the rest of the team.

I have used H&A since 2003 and they always provide an excellent friendly service. There are many letting/estate agents in Berkhamsted, but H&A specialise in lettings and since their charges are competitive too, I'm not going anywhere else!

We lived in Berkhamsted for 2 years, Home & Abroad have been, by far, the best agents we have used for rentals. They looked after us, very friendly, always available and extremely quick to respond if an issue arose with the rental. Home & Abroad made our 2 years in Berkhmasted very relaxing, problem free and enjoyable. As I said at the start, best agents we have dealt with in 15 years of renting. I wish all agents were like this!

We had such a nice experience renting through Home and Abroad and it was because of Emma. She was always so friendly and informed and helpful and really helped arrange a contract that seemed mutually beneficial to all involved.

Very helpful from first viewing with Amanda to sorting out the paperwork and getting me in my first rental at a difficult time for me . All paperwork done over the net ( allowing me to be abroad ) and couple of little problems found on beginning my tenancy were sorted in the first week with Simon Brown of Helping Hands . Great service all round .

I have used H&A rentals twice, the first time to rent a flat for about a year, 2001-2002. I have no complaints there, I think they did a good job. The second time was to rent a bungalow, 19 Gilbert Way in Berkhamsted, 2007-2018, for 11.5 years. Over that time they were generally ok with a few caveats. Contracts & the TDP deposit scheme was all handled well.Windows were dirty on moving in. Had persistent debt collector contact me about previous tenants.Their choice of contractors to do work on the property was not great IMO, bad for the landlord. H&A never came to inspect the work afterwards, relying on the tenant to give them a report of the work done, putting the responsibility on the tenant & not on themselves. Not all tenants care enough to report problems with contractor's work. This way, the contractor could blame the tenant not H&A who employed them when they have to come back. When I reported a problem, H&A relied on photos & video emailed to them & looked at the issue at their next quarterly property inspection. They used R.O. Allum 3 times for different jobs, & on no occasion was the job performed well, the 2nd time they fitted too large front door which hit the inside doorstep, & they ground it down ruining it & gave up & had to fit a smaller door. When they came to install a new kitchen sink, they had to come back 2 times as they hadn't sealed it up properly. They complained to H&A after the 2nd visit, blaming me, & I sent H&A video of the problem. H&A did not confirm they had informed ROA & I wrote to their manager complaining for getting me into trouble with my agent. ROA refused to come back unless I was out of the property, despite getting along fine with the workmen when they were there. H&A should never have agreed to this, but they did not want to lose them as a contractor.Siemens inspected the electricity meter in 2008 & commented that the meter tails of the main cables feeding the fuse box were in poor condition. I informed H&A about this but they took little interest. I had a hole in the garage roof above some electrical cables & a power socket, & during heavy rain, water dripped down onto these cables & the power socket. I took photos & sent these to H&A in March 2018. I contacted the council to get them visit to inspect the fuse box & roof leak for safety, & they arranged a visit, & H&A turned up on the day without providing notice, giving me rather unpleasant glares as they walked in. They agreed in front of the council employees to get an electrician to look at the fuse board & to sort out the roof. H&A did nothing about the roof for the last 6 months of my tenancy. I consider this grossly negligent. When it came to moving out, I used H&A preferred gardener to do a big clean up job of the garden, about 5 whole working days, on top of biweekly visits from the long term gardener who has always worked on the property, & they were very satisfied with it. I used H&A’s recommended end of tenancy cleaners to do a full clean inside the property. After vacating, there was a disagreement with the landlady regarding the deposit, which given the duration of my stay in the property was rather petty, & they flagged issues that were not mentioned in the check in & out inventory report which was produced by H&A preferred contractor, e.g. ivy growth. I got a quote from H&A’s preferred gardener to remove it all, even though it wasn’t mentioned in the end of tenancy inventory report, & the landlady only lived in the next street & could have viewed the issue for herself over the previous 11 years without even having to knock on the door. I then agreed the figure with the landlady via H&A. The landlord then requested that another contractor visit site to quote for the gardening, & his quote was more expensive, & the landlady then insisted via H&A that I agree this new figure, even though we had already agreed the previous one. So H&A wanted to me agree on a higher figure. H&A should have told the landlady 'no'. So I refused to agree to it. So this was all handled in a rather amateurish manner.

Don't usually do google reviews but this one's special as I had to get the ombudsman involved and they eventually returned my money.Condescending and a bunch of complete time wasters. Gross company, total crusty vibe. Don't bother.
