Very interesting and educational. Lots of exhibits and information boards plus short films which bring history alive. Beautiful views of the Downs and river mouth from the top of the Fort. There is a cafe providing drinks, cake and sandwiches at very reasonable prices.

I can only repeat what has been already said: unless you come here well prepared, you will be surprised what a huge structure it is. Not only fortifications fans will be delighted. The exhibitions are to be interesting to all kinds of visitors, including children.

Went with my 11 year old son, he found the different rooms and displays very interesting. Even better when he got to chat with a lovely man who was very knowledgeable about the weapons and my son got a hands on experience of the weapons and helmets. Nice clean toilets. The cafe looked good too. Some of the rooms were not open due to maintenance and other places out of bounds. Great views from the top though.

I saw on Google maps that there is a fort here. I didn't expect much, only ruins I thought honestly....I was very wrong. This is a very well kept and unique fort which has many little exhibitions and activity rooms for groups as well.I stepped into the history and learnt a lot here.It was interactive, not just reading boring stuffs. Also I didn't expect to walk around that much, there are many rooms open to the public, tiny corridors, steep creepy hallways as well. Plus the viewing points on the top of it.Easily you can spend hours here and the children will enjoy it too. There is a playground for under 12. And a 1940's decorated tea room to buy drinks, light bites.Wonderful time (But slightly depressing as well to see war time rooms, can't delete history) Can highly recommend.

Such a lot to see here and friendly, knowledgeable staff on hand to help. It is worth visiting just for the views (and we were there in terrible weather!)We came here spontaneously because the rain ruined our planned walk in the country. It is dog friendly and partially indoors, so it seemed like a good alternative. It cost us around £10 each and we can now visit free for a year!I like history but I'm not keen on the glorification of war and this isn't somewhere I'd usually be excited to see but it's all very well done. It's informative, the language and tone appropriate, and there's enough interactive stuff to be sort of fun, too.I enjoyed the little light display that shows the planning of the fort and it's defenses, as well as climbing down to the magazines and exploring the dark old corridors. They take pictures of dogs and put them up everywhere, which is an awesome touch and I'm looking forward to seeing my little guy up on the wall!Unfortunately, the cafe isn't dog friendly. Hopefully a different owner will get the contract one day, as that's a poor move. The only other downside was being unable to time the theatre right. There's no indication of when it starts and we didn't want to wait in the rain. But we'll catch it next time!I'm looking forward to visiting in better weather and enjoying a picnic at the top. Even if you're not interested in the history, it has some spectacular views and beautiful places to sit.Don't forget to visit the gift shop!
