Thai On The River
Pretty dismal experience I'm afraid. They got our order wrong, even though it was really quiet. We ordered plain noodles too, which were supposed to come in a sauce, etc. They came out plain noodles! Boiled, no sauce, nothing, with a price of £7.95! I complained to what I presume was the manager and she was really rude. Told me it was my fault! She was shouting at me from across the bar and I had to ask her to come over to talk. I refused to pay that price for boiled noodles, but in the end had to acquiesce and pay half the price for them. I've never been spoken to by a restauranteur like that before. Hopefully ever again... I wouldn't recommend this place.

So pleased to have found this gem of a restaurant. Great surroundings, delicious food cooked beautifully, reasonably priced and lovely staff hence the 5 stars, cannot fault this place. Definitely recommended.

Sinking ship!We have eaten at this restaurant many times in the past and always had a good experience. Unfortunately this was not the case on our last visit. The staff were not attentive at all, despite the fact the place was empty, we were not greeted well and waiters just took the order and served the food like they were bored to death. When we left they just ignored us too.The food was always really good here but now it's just average and overpriced. We had rubbery squid, cold soup and dull mains. The desert menu was ridiculously non-Thai and the worst thing was when we saw the bar staff pour our expensive cokes's from a supermarket bought bottle from the fridge. All this was served to background music that was 1980's pop music, not traditional in any way.I suspect it has been taken over by new management, bent on cutting corners. Sadly this will be the last time we visit this restaurant as Norwich is spoilt for choice with other Thai restaurants.

Liked the idea of lunch on a boat.Went for a birthday lunch,One diner was a coeliac so gluten free food was required.Very little choice for G/F and neither of the 2 servers understood what gluten was ? They did tell us they had only worked there for short while,(clearly had no training in dietary requirements). We were seated next to a window overlooking the river. The window was very dirty ,the flowers on the table were half broken. One of our party went to the WC and said it wasn't clean. The food was mediocre.Chicken satay was passable.Rice overcooked/dry.Duck stir fried dish dry. This is not a restaurant that we would visit again.

Absolutely awful service, people who arrived after us got drink starter and main course before. Waited another 35 mins. Owner is the chef and trying to run front of house at same time..portions small and both starter and main served at the same time..she cannot cope. Awful service only go in if there is no more than two customers as she might manage to cope

Thai On The River
Quite disappointing. Went there for a birthday meal, on the basis that we had gone 18 months previously and quite enjoyed it. Despite booking a week in advance, we were allocated a table right next to the entrance, which wasn't great. One of the waiters was about to take us upstairs when another quite rudely intervened and started talking loudly in Thai - she clearly wasn't happy about it, so we had to end up sitting downstairs. It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't near the entrance, with people constantly coming and going. The starters were ok, but far too small. OK you don't expect a large portion, but for £6 per starter we expected more. We then ordered main courses, and they took well over an hour to arrive. It seems we had been forgotten about, as I noted that people who had come into the restaurant after us were already being served their food. The waitress who originally took our order had disappeared, and when we enquired about our food to other waiting staff they either seemed a little bewildered or annoyed that we were asking.Eventually the food arrived...whilst there were no major complaints, the portions were far too small. When you consider just a prawn stir fry on it's own is £15 with no rice or sides, we expected more. The food was nothing special, it just seemed like a few prawns and vegetables fried in soy sauce to me. I found this quite disappointing, as the last time I had been here I had ordered what I remembered to be the same dish and it was much tastier. It seems that the menu has changed, and we all know when that happens it usually means the food is not as nice as before. I can kind of deal with that, but the biggest letdown of the night was the service - they clearly weren't bothered about us and made no effort to make us feel welcome. What was even worse is that towards the end of the meal a couple arrived on the table behind us, who clearly knew the restaurant staff, and they were being treated like royalty. We won't be going again.

The food is pretty good. The service is excellent. The location can feel a little out-of-the-way. This may be good for some, if you want a quiet meal.

Below average food, terrible service and utterly useless staff. The portions were small and the prices were far too expensive. Stay well away.
