Netley Abbey
Very clean and tidy. A well-kept, peaceful and pleasant place to visit. A small car park but it was empty anyway, so no parking issues. An impressive place to visit.

Fantastic place to visit and at no cost. Small car park. And there's the Royal Victoria country park just a short drive along the same road.

Very large ruins surrounded by a beautifully mowed lawn! A surprise to come across this oasis of history and green-ness (is that even a word?!) in the middle of housing estates. Lots of useful information boards around - but not too many! Seems a popular spot for locals to have picnics! The underground plumbing (small stream) still flowing after all these years....Small, free, parking (but if full there is a lot of street parking only a minute or two away). English Heritage site with free entry. No facilities so no toilets, no food. Really enjoyed this impressive building and worth a visit on a bright sunny day like today.

I am always going to try and give 5 stars to historical ruins/sites, as they take us back in time, and we get some insight of our heritage here in England.I visited the ruins here at Netley Abbey, where I was actually taken aback by how large this Cistercian monastery is, (the pictures on Google reviews do not give it much justice). The ruins themselves are also fairly well preserved. Quite like the ruins that I visited of Waverley Abbey in Surrey, in which I would recommend that you pay a visit to as well. The grounds that the Abbey resides in are also large, and would be suitable for something like a picnic. The ruins themselves are extremely impressive, you can see on some of the walls, people have carved their initials into the stones to their date of visit (I found one going back to 1889!).Boards around the site, will give you a good idea of what the monastery (and as it became a private manor house in the 1500s) would have looked like back in the day.A great visit overall, I would recommend history nerds like myself, and anyone who wants to look back into our history. The only thing I can say about the site, is that the car park is very small, and I would suggest parking around the corner (like I did), or finding a suitable public car park nearby.

Really impressive ruins. Lots of main structures still in place and a lovely place to wander around. I had vibes of laycock abbey in parts. Please note the the car park is very small.

Very stunning old ruins of an Abbey, ground are very clean and well kept, it's a beautiful place to take a look at, really intresting with plenty of info about the Abbey. We were the only ones there on our drive by on a Monday afternoon but I imagine it's a wonderful picnic spot in the summer. Worth a visit for the beauty and the history.

Netley Abbey is much larger than it looks from the road. The scale of the building when constructed must have been so impressive. You can imagine walking around how it might have looked had you been there with the people of the time. The last image here is a photosphere so you can see the building from inside the walls
