Was just passing by looking for advice about a wheel axel... Ended up having a laugh and walking out with some gear cables and housing for them for a really great price! Great customer service

Just popped in to ask about a second hand bike we had purchased for my daughter. They were really lovely and extremely helpful!

Stellar shop, fantastic friendly staff!I was told by a different bike shop, after experiencing shifting issues on my road bike, that I needed a new cassette, chain, derailleur, and dropout hanger after my bike took a spill. A bill that would have amounted to over £500. Now, I’m not the most experienced bike mechanic myself, but I know my bike very well and was suspicious of this assessment. So a second opinion and diagnosis from the staff at John Atkins confirmed that all this was total rubbish and all I needed was a new bottom bracket, a straightened dropout hanger, a gear tune-up, and a new chain. Saved me a load of money and they did it so quickly! Around a hours work, and I’m back on my bike. Seriously the best experience I’ve ever had from a bike shop. It now shifts cleanly and smoothly again with no grinding from the BB. From the service provided and the additional advice given, they will now become my preferred shopping and service destination for any future work that needs doing. Thank you so much for all your great work. Seriously talented and well worth a visit, above and beyond!

Certainly not the review I expected I would be writing at the start of the day.Some issues had arisen past & present & I therefore wanted to speak with someone at the store so as to hopefully put matters right.When I called the store the phone was answered by a Gary.I didn’t appreciate until the end of the conversation that he happened to be the owner so I suggested I come & see him at the store to discuss the matter in person.Long story short; if there was such a thing as a textbook owner ensuring clients are looked after & listened to than Gary would fit this brief.Conscientious, thorough and genuine.I wish you & your team every success. Great service today. I was in a fix when my front mech died at the beginning of a tour. New part supplied at a competitive price and fitted whilst I waited. Very friendly too.

Nipped in today to have my rear wheel alignment checked. This was my first time in the shop and the staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. They were able to inspect my wheel there and then and with a little true up and a reseat of the tyre we were running true again. Will be using as my local cycle store of choice from now on. Many thanks.

John Atkins are the worst shop in town, don’t waste your time or money there.Personally I would recommend the nicer shops at the top of town instead, even Halfords would be better.I’m not the only customer who’s been ripped off and had a bad experience with the service, there only seems to be one half decent employee left and he looked exhausted, I think its always good to try support the local bike shop so I gave them one last chance as a loyal customer for over a decade, after reading the previous reviews thought it would of been better, only to get messed about again, I have definitely been over charged for extra services I didn’t ask for in the past. Never got a refund. Basically robbing customers.The last time I was in the shop… the fact they were trying to fit someone to a new road bike, while the rear wheel was inches off the ground says it all. It was painful to see that level of incompetence, or they try offer me left over used parts for full price…? I can’t trust them to work on my bike if they don’t know what there doingI was actually offered a job there years ago when my preferred bike mechanic resigned, but I didn’t want to work there either, because of the uncomfortable patronising attitude from the old mechanic, It’s not a good environment for someone struggling with any form of anxiety, I don’t even feel comfortable going in and asking them to borrow a pump, because I’d probably have to wait a few minutes outside first, think I’ll just go to another shop next timeJoe
