Garage Mechanic York - Dunnington Motor Care Ltd

I thought I would try this local company but the experience was very disappointing and I won’t be going back.I think the 40% mark-up on the parts is excessive but the owner said that this is normal at all garages and quite rightly pointed out that they had done the work for the quoted price.I am concerned with the quality of parts fitted as I was told that OE (Original Equipment) Parts would be used (OE refers to parts which are used by the car manufacturer, it is also possible OE equivalent parts which are supposed to be manufactured to the same standards and specification as the original parts but not necessarily by the same company as the OE parts). Maybe alarm bells should have rung when I asked for clarification of where the parts would come from when I got the quote and I was told they come from Ford (my car is an Audi). While I never expected OE parts to be fitted for the quoted price I remain to be convinced on whether the parts are OE specification / quality. The owner assures me they are good quality OE equivalent, I guess that time will tell.I had a minor issue with the quality of the work (a missing screw) which the owner offered to correct, although I declined and replaced it myself.I was unhappy with the way the car was driven during the test drive (which the owner has said he has fed back to his mechanic). Apparently if you have a dash cam fitted you are supposed to make them aware, which I didn’t know.This garage obviously has a lot of good feedback so maybe I was just unlucky. There is nothing in the text above that I haven’t discussed directly with the owner and I think I have shared my thoughts fairly and objectively. I would acknowledge that I am a demanding customer, but some of this comes from by background working for automotive OE suppliers and me having a good understanding of what is involved in doing the work (although the owner would argue that he doesn’t think I understand how his overheads and labour rates work). There will clearly always be a few dissatisfied customers even in the best companies and hopefully my experience is an isolated one, but I decided that it was important to share it so there is a balanced view in the feedback. Looking at all the feedback provided by multiple customers I would probably conclude that (while I won’t be going back) they are probably an okay garage, but maybe some of the information above can help others to avoid the disappointment that I experienced by allowing you to ask some key questions. And don’t forget to tell them if you have a dash cam.

Wonderful service and wonderful people!My first and only car was an old banger borrowed from my mum. I'm not a confident driver or knowledgeable about cars in general but the wonderful people at Dunnington never made me feel like I was asking stupid questions. I felt comfortable asking if I needed anything explaining in more detail. The service was excellent and I would highly recommend them to everyone, but particularly for anyone who needs a garage they can trust when they don't have much knowledge themselves.

Having broken down on the A64 the RAC managed to escort me to Dunnington’s with it being an approved RAC garage. Due to the nature of the fault and time of night they were unable to address there and then but Ged was very accommodating and ensured me my car would be safe and sound whilst it awaited repair. Due to ongoing train strikes I was unable to get back up to York but Dunnington was again very accommodating and ensured me my car would be stored safely until I was able to collect. No additional charges were incurred.I received regular updates from Sarah, Danni and Ged on my cars progress and I was informed when my car was ready for collection.Truly grateful to Ged and the Dunnington Team for getting me back onto the road.I would highly recommend from my recent experience. 5 out of 5.

Five star service.I have used Dunnington Motor Care for several years now .They look after our small van fleet as well as my personal cars.They are very flexible ,can turn their hand to anything and their customer service is excellent.Thanks once again guys.

Dunnington Motorcare always find time to fit me in last minute as I often forget those little things like MOTs and servicing. Their pricing has always been fair and they are honest about what needs doing, or not doing! A very trustworthy garage. So happy to have them nearby!

During lockdown Graham even serviced 3 vans for me on a Bank Holiday Monday to ensure we could continue to deliver a service. This was greatly appreciated. This garage always provides an excellent service. I have used them since they opened in 2012 and will continue to do so. They are very professional and do great work, they are helpful, communicative and very importantly fairly priced. Compared to the experiences I have had with main dealers Dunnington Motor Care is a breath of fresh air!
